Hi, I'm thinking of getting a gaming laptop just for when I'm not at my PC, I'm on the road a lot so it would be great to have a decent laptop.

What would be the best I could get for around £500-600?

Thanks.

What sort of games would you want to play? You're going to struggle to get anything new and considered a gaming laptop for that budget.

the rule of thumb with gaming laptops is get the absolute best graphics card you can afford. always try and get the top of the range of the series, you'll find that something like a 680m gtx will outperform all but the best 7 series card.

If you were to google something like SkyFire III, you might find what your looking for ;) if you play around with the spec you can get under £500, little tip, if you dont need a copy of windows, de-select it out the spec and save yourself £79.

The only way to get sub £500 is to go with a complete base setup (and exclude windows as the base setup is £550 to begin with). This means Pentium dual core (2.3Ghz, no turbo & no HT), 4GB of single channel memory and a meh HD.

Once you add a decent i5 (really want an i7 TBH), 8GB memory, SSD you are looking at £650+.

Well yes if you want an I7 and a SSD you are over that  but you get the option to change the spec to suit your budget. OP speced "decent laptop" at the end of the day its a 14" with a 760m in it, I really dont think choosing an i7 over and i5 is going to make a blind bit of difference.

You can change the spec to suit your budget yes, but the "sub £500" is a complete waste of time.
