Seems the cost of a 1st class stamp is going up to 12/6p

If you are under 40 then it probably means nothing to you - 12/6p was 1/5th of my weekly wage at one point in my life.

So 62p in new money - I remember when they were 2p - 2p in old money and there was 240p to pound.

62p to transport a letter anywhere in the country in 1-2 days. That's an absolute bargain, however, now that they have privatised it, don't expect it to stay there long. It'll be a quid within a few years and not as fast to arrive.

Wages are down and costs of living are up, it's all part of the Tory effect.

Expect the universal service to go next, Royal Mail are already making noises that it's too expensive to maintain.

The Tory effect? what is that exactly?

You only earn £3.10p a week? You need a better job.

And not a single **** was given today.

Even if it costs £2 to send a letter several hundred miles away through several sorting depots, it's still reasonable.

62p is a bargain tbh.

I'm still amazed I can get a letter picked up 30 meters from my front door in Cornwall, correctly sorted delivered to the right address in Scotland within 24hrs - all for 62p!

This is my thinking as well, it's rare I have to send a letter as pretty much everything can be done online or over the phone so that rare time that I may have to send a letter I don't mind paying a couple of quid to get it to some far flung corner of the UK for less than the price it costs me to get the bus to take me the 10 miles to work every morning.
Then when it comes to parcels I've already got plenty of cheaper choices that'll even pick it up from my house while I'm sat in my boxers scratching myself.
