Hi I bought my Ipad in Nov 2012 was using it last night "playing Catan"

The battery was at 10% then the screen went with some what can only be described as zigzag lines then went blank.

Then the apple logo appeared for about 5 seconds then screen went blank.

Ok I decided to charge it over night but it's not coming back on.

Tried all the options "home + power button" didn't work

I plugged it into itunes which detects the device but states it's in recovery mode and needs to be restored. However that doesn't work error code 1014.

However when I try to order assistance via apple they are charging me 82€+VAT(21%) to collect it stating "battery replace" only.

So I have a couple of questions

1) does 1014 mean battery problem

2) what if it ain't the battery but something that should be repaired for free under warranty?

I bought it from a large superstore and don't want to return it there as it'll be away for "weeks" I've had previous with their store and they are abysmal at this sort of thing.

Should I bite the bullet and pay over 100€ and trust apple to fix it?

Phoned apple and they said since I'm in year 2 I have to take my chances with the seller they are legally obliged to repair or replace the pad.

so off I go to the supermarket

See you in 2 months Ipad :/

Not as bad as I thought only 4-6 weeks..... :o

Interesting to note the price of the 32GB air is only 529€

hmmmm

Nope not at all was thinking of giving the fixed/refurbed replacement to my son for birthday and buying myself the 32gb air ;)

The woman at the shop was cagey as to where it went she just said it goes to their head department then then decide what to do with it.

I hope they don't decide to do a dodgy DIY repair but send it to apple.

Will check it thoroughly on return.

Took some photos and a small 2 min video clip just before handing it in as proof of condition it was immaculate.

Got a refurb back yesterday.

It's in a better state than my previous one so quite happy.

Still took a month though
