hi all

just got a nice new toxic R290 card and my pc just shuts down when I try to start a game or run furmark etc.

It works ok in desktop.

I suspect the PS. It's good but under powered at 600W
NESTEQ ECS6001

I have ordered a

EVGA SuperNova G2 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply

so hopefully it will sort out this issue.

does this sound likely?

cheers

It sounds sound like when your GPU is pushed the PSU cant provide the power. Hence why its fine at lower levels.

You say you have a new PSU coming so it should be easy to check.

If the issue persists I would check that you arent overheating but think its probably PSU.

Only 48A on the 12V rail according to the spec.

R9 290 eats 31A of that on it's own with stock clocks.

Ah right, makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to check that. Hopefully the new PSU will sort it out. I saw it appears to put out 83A

just an update

card runs fine with new noisy power supply:)
so lack of power was the problem

thanks all
