I bet you're bored of threads like this now..... but.....

Ive decided to get a new GPU, Nvidia, first time in years! Anyway, im looking at a few 780's.

Im looking at either:

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 WindForce 3x "GHz Edition" 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive**

Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra DHS Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

or maybe a MSI GeForce GTX 780 Lightning 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Because its been so long since ive had a Nvidia card Id like peoples opinions and general advice on these cards, or do i even stretch the bank to a TI?

CPU FX830, PSU Corsair RM750, Mobo Asus Crosshair V Formula-z.

If you have an AMD FX get an R9-290, makes more sense with the few games that support Mantle.

If of course you aren't worried with CPU bottleneck, then EVGA.

IMO if you had a Intel i7 CPU, then I would say it doesn't really matter if you gone with either the GTX780 or the 290, but since you only got a FX8 CPU, I would say it'd probably be better to go with the 290 as the FX8 would bottleneck the graphic card at times, and Mantle would help with remediating the issue. Also not to mention that the 290 is lower in price than the GTX780 on average.

Anyone know why this thread is being flagged on Chrome as malware threats but none of the others are?

Ahhh, Cheers Uber :)

People are talking as if Mantle is supported by every game, there are what 2 games? just buy whatever GPU you want with a view to upgrading your CPU in the future (if you want to alleviate CPU bottlenecks).

A GTX780Ti's "extra performance" would likely not to be come into effect on a FX8, and the 290 is on par with the GTX780 at the very least. Lower price and with Mantle with the possibility to reducing CPU bottleneck in future games, what's not to like? Because everyone got endless amount of money to burn and upgrading the CPU and platform is on everyone's top priority list right?

Not everyones top priority no, But neither is buying a card for use with mantle that supports 2 games so far.

The smart money is on a 780 or a 290 i agree, throwing a 290 has mantle into the mix right now means nada as the games it supports gets well over 60 fps on ultra settings on either card anyway.

Maybe when the starswarm engine is used in a game that someone wants then nvidia users will have to turn off motion blur.

You do realise I said the equal performance at generally lower price point is the main advantage that the 290 has over the GTX780 (£310-£380 vs £380-£430), and the Mantle is just the "iceing on top" that come as a bonus.

I'd go with this: Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra DHS Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
I have it in my other PC and it's freakin awesome ! it's HUGHE so make sure you have the room. But the cooler is darn effective, the card never goes beyond 54*c at max load in my rig and it's very VERY quiet. And it's so fast that it bites the GTX 780Ti in it's heels - it's max 3-5% slower than stock 780Ti.

So how much would my CPU bottleneck a 780?
My only concern with an R9 is I dont want to have to upgrade PSU and I am possibly going to go to the FX9590. Would that bottleneck a 780?

How "huge" is huge? Is it longer than a Sappire R9 280X toxic? How many slots does it take up?

AMD processors will bottleneck any top end card (even a 290) if you play certain games. Rather than a 780Ti I'd get a 780 (or 290) and put the saving towards an Intel CPU if CPU bottlenecks and power usage is a concern.

The 9590 is just a very overclocker 8xxx I don't think it's worth buying personally. At that point you might as well save a bit more and opt for an Intel i7 setup. gpu wise definitely a 780 or 290 depending on preference and games you play.

The card is around 29,6cm long and it's fill ups almost 3 slots - you have to have 3 slots free anyway.

Buy this one and you wont regret it:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC ACX Superclock 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (03G-P4-2784-KR) £399.95
Total : £409.55 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I have it and it runs everything I play on ultra.
And it overclocks like a dream. Managed to push it by 13.5% in Firestrike Extreme (on air, stock bios) and by 29% in Unigine Valley (on air, stock bios).
Card cost 400£ at OCuk (a steal for this class of gpu) and you will pay very close to it with R9 290 with custom cooler ( no idea how it overclocks )

At that price point I'd be looking at the gigabyte or evga, wouldn't bother with a ti unless your upgrading the cpu and overclocking.

None of the cards are a bad buy though unless your space constrained for instance.

Ill be playing games like Skyrim, BF4, Titanfall, Theif, Elder Scrolls online ect....
Also be doing lots of photo editing and mybe some video editing too...

Ive got plenty of space in my case, easy enough room for the l9ng cards....
