I can purchase both for around the same price from mobilephonesdirect.co.uk at around £19 p/m with cashback and I'm unsure which one is the best for me.

I want to use the device for daily internet browsing and just general texting and calling. I may also use it for games to pass the time.

Which device is most suitable for this criteria?

Thanks

Have you looked at the HTC One? They'll receive a big price drop soon and are imo better than both the nexus 5 and S4 for 19pm

I have looked at it and the build quality does not really appeal to me. I don't like the software on it and the phone isn't as nice looking as the Nexus and GS4 imo.

Wait for the Galaxy S5 to come out at least, prices will come down. It comes out on April the 11th.

Main difference is the removable battery and being able to add storage on the S4.

However, the N5 offers pure android and is arguably a bit "quicker" in the way it performs because of the lack of bloatware.

However some people like what Samsung have to offer in that way.

I've moved from an S3 to a N5 and I don't regret it for a minute.

As well as the above, I think the S4 has a better camera and possibly screen (especially if you like AMOLED). Samsung's Android skin (TouchWiz) isn't the greatest, but it does have some good tweaks and you can quite easily get most of the device looking the same as the Nexus 5 with relative ease.

The Nexus 5 has better internals (speed wise) so will be more futureproof, as well as being guaranteed all future Android versions before other phones, for at least 2-3 years.

Name a single Nexus device that has been updated for 2 years :p

Nope, it was released under 2 years ago. I'm interested to see if it will get updated to the next Android release this summer.

I guess that will depend if Nvidia plays nice with the drivers (TI pulled out hence why GN didn't get KK). The N4 on the other hand is still a pretty good phone so it's more likely for it to reach 2 years compared to the N7 2012.

Personally OP I would say go into a store and have a play around with both, and see which out of the two you enjoy more.

i bought a n5 while my s4 was being repaired. ended up selling the s4 once repaired

a mem card slot would make it perfect but found myself using 'the cloud' now. its far far far better built too. even if i did still break the power button on one :/

will add for laughs that i never broke an iphone in years of abuse and misuse but have broke 4 android phones with problems that come under warranty.

Wasn't the Galaxy Nexus updated for quite a while? With a Snapdragon 800 you'd expect at least 2 years of solid updates for the Nexus 5. I can't see the software suddenly getting too taxing for the current hardware.

3 updates, 18 months.

You'd think so but it hasn't happened yet.
