Law passed in UK to allow women to do background checks on partners

In the UK, to coincide with 'Womens Day', Clare's law has been passed which allows women the right to do background criminal checks on a prospective partner.

What are your thoughts ?

Can men do checks on women too? If not why not because quite often its the women hitting the men in relationships.

Does it work both ways? And hoe does it work, would the partner have to give permission?
That BBC article doesn't appear to go in to the details, although I did only skim read.

Also its another law that shouldn't be needed. If they are at risk why are they not in prison. If they have served their time, then they should be free and not be persisted by their past. Unless they are back in a court.

Seems a bit odd really to check your partner, surely if they are dodgy enough you want to check them then why the hell are they your partner in the first place?

The scheme is not gender specific. This does not exclude men.

it also doesn't just include convictions just any anonymous report to the police.

so you leave your ex she gets ****ed of reports you to the police for abuse. you never get told as she takes it no further any partner you have who checks up on you is told by the police your a wife beater.

and you can never ever clear your name or have the report removed or even challenge it.

Err no. The police will only release information if they believe there is a credible risk. The public protection units are very experienced to know what is a real threat and what is spurious.
