Halifax have blocked my account and i have to go into town to sort the issue!

Problems started last week when i tried to transfer money to another account (santander) and it was blocked.
i thought it might just be a general issue so thought nothing of it
today i try to transfer money from paypal into my account and it is blocked, also my card pin was blocked.

I probably know why this is, i sold some bit coins and so had 4 cash transfers into my account all very quickly. these all went through

I now have to take a morning off work as i cannot pay my credit card off and i dont even know if my direct debits will go through

What has really peed me off is i had no information as to this only when i actively rang halifax was i told i need to go into branch!

I will be leaving due to this most likely unless they compensate me something for the hassle.
luckily work will be ok but i will have to make up the time.

not amused!

anyone else had this?

You poor bloke. I feel for you i really do.

If i am honest i am not sure how you are coping.

They spotted unusual behavior on the account and blocked it. Would you prefer that they let unusual transactions through without questioning them?

Let me guess. If your account was compromised or showed unusual activity and they took no action you would also start ranting and want compensation.

If your biggest gripe in life is the bank taking pro active action to ensure your money is secure then you are lucky.

Plus, it will hardly take 1/2 a day to pop into a branch on your way to or from work to sort out

The reason i am not happy is not that they have flagged it but that they have not told me the moment it was blocked.

When i made a big purchase on my CC card Amex phoned me up immediately to clarify the issue

Edit. Could this actually be pretty serious?
I suspect i have been sent money from a stolen source?

Possibly. Enjoy the few extra quids you made with bitcoins whilst you bounce a ball of your cell room wall....

Sold bitcoins and had four cash transfers into the account does sound unusual behaviour to me. Why do you think you have received stolen money?

think ive been paid from a stolen account and thats why its been blocked

Why do you suddenly think you have been paid from a stolen account?
Just due to th blocking, or were there other warning signs?

As for Halifax, when you first realised a payment had not gone through, why did you wait until the next week to contact your bank?
They are proactively protecting you, yet you cba to check until a week later?
If you had phoned initially and indeed immediately, the block may well have been liftable.

If you go onto your online banking it should show all of the transfer including from/to details. If these have been removed then the only people that could do this are the bank.
Is the person still in touch? Anything strange about the transaction?
why do you think its from a stolen account?

as above tho its better they do this than they dont pay attention and dont bother so then your out of pocket. If they've frozen the account and DD's fail then I'm pretty sure they'd have to stump up any charges incurred

im now not so worried about the account being closed if it is from this.

The person is not still in touch
Nothing strange about the transaction at the time but with him closing his local bitcoin account i

i am happy to loose the money, im concerned about how to explain im not at fault!
