International Women's Day - Best Wishes :)

Well, I really didn't expect you guys to be such a bunch of ******* and *******.

I wanted to make a more insightful comment, but I just have no words.

insightful about what?

both a mens day and a women's day are ludicrous "congratulations on having genitals day" yay

although this reminds me i should say happy womens day to my trans friend, means a bit more to them given they had to work for it...

Meh, International Mens Day is November 19th.
Great, some crappy day in the middle of Winter to promote health or something dull.

I'll stick with pushing for "Steak and Chips Day", the middle of August would do fine.
Women can share the day if they like.

@OP
I don't get how posting some roses promotes female equality (etc)?
that's just another gender stereotype

That's the only context in which it makes sense, but on an individual basis. Change complete day, sort of like a birthday. I'm surpised Hallmark haven't made cards already.

I don't want an international man's day to "balance" international women's day.

I want a world in which people aren't deemed to be defined by their sex.

I want a world in which there aren't powerful ideologies continuously campaigning to sustain and increase that idea and to increase division between people of different sexes.

I want a world in which it isn't acceptable to think that one sex is superior to the other.

So no, I do not give best wishes to anyone who supports international women's day. I give them my disdain and my hope that in time they will change their mind and advocate sexual equality instead.

I think this is an idea with the same basis as Gay Pride, promoting equality where there is none, not promoting something at the expense of something else.

(Hopefully that's pro feminist enough to get me laid)

The formula is the less you say, the more likely you'll get laid. So in other words, you've went so far over that line...

I refuse to recognise International Women's Day. Be nice to me, and I'll be nice back. Oh and I show everyone courtesy so I don't get trapped in someone has to be nice to me first loop. :p

Last year a work colleague in our London office sent an email to the entire company (UK, Italy, Germany, Sweden, America & Canada) along the lines of:

"It's International Women's Day and I would like to congratulate all you women on what you have achieved. If you would like to head to the canteen you'll find we're short on cakes, so make us some!"

Now that took some nuts :p

No such thing. When you consider everyone to be defined by a particular biological characteristic, you are not promoting equality between people with different versions of that biological characteristic. Quite the opposite.

When you see having the "right" biological characteristics through no achievement of your own to be something to be proud of, you're going even further away from equality.

(Hopefully that's pro feminist enough to get me laid)

That price for sex is too high.

I am looking forward to the time where we don't see the need to "celebrate" or recognise certain sections of society just because of the way they are born (gay/straight/bi, male/female etc).

With the amount of this kind of thing happening its as if society is saying that, if you are an able-bodied straight white male between 20-50, then you have it easy these days and you get everything handed to you on a plate!!

Equality is just a pipe dream, there's no such thing and there never will be. Having a "day" for any particular group just proves this. All people are doing is unwittingly perpetuating the disparity.
