Strange beeping? HELP..

This started 2 days ago. Never had it before. I heard this beeping from the pc, which I thought was a fan catching. Only lasts a second, and about once every half an hour. It sound like the old dialup internet modem, high pitch squeak. But this sound is also happening when the pc is off/shutdown. The only think on is my router. Any ideas?

Could be capacitor whine from the PSU might be time to consider replacing it.

Would this still make a noise when the pc is shut down?

Power is still being supplied even when its shut down, so possibly.

Try unplugging the power lead and see if it stops.

OK Unpluged pc, still get noise like fax machine/modem.
Unpluged cable from router to PC. Still get noise.
Any ideas?

I'll unplug router tonight to see if it stops, but any other ideas would be greatfull.

If it's still making the noise after removing all power sources, either there's still some charge being held somewhere, in which case wait a bit.

Have you checked inside the case for rodents?

The big caps inside the PSU, can hold there charge for upto 30mins even after unplugging the power lead, that's why there is a risk of electric shock sticker on there even after PSU is unplugged.

You really need to narrow down first where the sound or which component the sound is coming from, it could be anything.

Well unplugged the router. Still making noise. How the hell is that happening?
I had both pc and router unplugged overnight.

What's going on?

Surly the pc battery can't power anything?

No, the battery is just a backup power for your bios settings, its like 3.3v or something like that, cant fully remember.

This is very strange, extension lead maybe ?

Tinnitus?

Can't you just unplug everything from the wall at the same time? If the noise stops you can start plugging things back in until it returns.

Are you sure it's not the low battery warning on your motherboard? Some boards still use batteries to keep the internal clock running when it's powered off. Check if your board has one?

Don't think it does as I've had to change it before. There was no sounds then.

If I find out. Had it all unplugged from mains last night. Switched power switch off on pc. Tried power button on pc to drain any excess power. Still get this dam noise every halfish hour.

Solved.

Well after taking my pc off the desk ( mum and dad did it as I'm a tetraplegic ), about to swap battery out, when the beep went off again, but not from pc.
Must be the router then. unplugged it, sat it on my table, BEEP, but not from router.
Emptied the cupboard, found my spare desktop. Must be that. BEEP. No.
But the beep did come from the pill of stuff I just took out of the cupboard.
Seperated it around my louge.
Turns out it was coming from my Boinx battery for my handcycle. Warn I needed to charge it as I haven't used it more months. LOL.
Anyway thanks for all the help and in Adam Hills words, I'M SUCH A D**K.

I hear beepings from my computer that correlate to when LEDs power off. The sound either stops/gets much quieter when the LED flashes on.

The sound I found to be the most irritating was that associated with the powering off of the LEDs on my ethernet-through-the-mains power thingy that my ethernet cable plugs into due to the wireless signal being too weak. I now switch that off at the mains when not in use.

Also check out nearby chargers that you leave in (such as home phone chargers) as I've found these to emit sporadic high-pitched beeping for no apparent reason. They are not audible to a lot of people, but I sure as hell can hear them.
