Hi all,

Was pondering yesterday how long the 'Gaming PC' can continue for? Is there a long-term future for us buying parts and assembling custom PCs?

What's your view?

This was only discussed the other day.

Short answer:
Pancake.

Long answer:
Gaming PCs will never go out, they'll always be more powerful than consoles, at least for the foreseeable future.

Considering the launch line-up for this newest gen consisted mostly of EA games, I'd be more worried about the future of console gaming.

nah ususally find the better games dont appear for at least 12-18 months after release. if the games are still poor middle of 2015 then i would say they flopped but i doubt it

Like;
Battlefield 5,
Call of Duty: Shadows,
Fifa 15/16,
Forza 5?
Killzone 4/5?
Dead Rising 4
Etc. :p

Consoles need to grasp the Indie market/Not so mainstream titles, EA also need to be stopped for the sake of consoles & PC!

I've just posted this in another thread... Steam has over 65 million active users .. Ps4 has sold 6 million and Xbox one has sold less so I can't see it dying anytime soon :)

I must admit obviously there is more choice with Console gamers and now that console games are 1080 for instance BF4 Console and PC 1080 I cannot see much difference, but as I use my PC for more than just gaming, hence why I still need one

More choice with console gamers? lol? Not sure if you mean console gamers have a greater choice of games?

Also BF4 doesn't run at 1080p on console (max is 900p on PS4)

I believe consoles should be worried.

When the general public realise they can have a PC (HTPC) for not much more than a nextgen console that can be plugged in to the lounge TV and be used with a 360 Joypad which will then give them a vast library of cheap games from the likes of steam and humble indie bundles etc.

I bought a PS4 and while it's a good machine I do kind of wish I didn't buy it and just stuck to PC gaming, kind of an addiction buying new shiny tech!

I have been wondering if we are going to see a sealed AMD pc for living room gaming based on a suped PS4 type spec.
Basically a ddr5 kaveri properly crossfired to another hard wired grahics chip with say 12 gigs of ram.
I am wilfully ignorant so dont know why when the PS4 has shared ddr5 that AMD cant do the same with minimal dev costs on a PC platform.

Well I'd been waiting for the new gen consoles for yonks and when I heard the specs I couldn't believe how far behind they were compared to even the average pc. So I scrapped the idea of a console and came back to pc gaming. I read somewhere yesterday that a heck of a lot of console gamers have done the same after the disappointing lack of 1080p 60fps games. This bodes well for the future of pc gaming.

Was just going to post this , xbox has 42 million approx subscribers but still way behind steam , bring on steambox :-)

This year I see intel having it by the b**ls. DDR4 and the natural progression from the Titans will see to that. Consoles will just be for the enthusiasts (fanboys).

About time we took some back.

My rather drunken opinion - not gospel.
