Easy Pasta Dishes

Making your own pasta sauce isn't complicated at all

I would go as far as making your own pasta isn't difficult either.

Wrap it in cling film and let it sit for 30 mins before rolling.

I couldn't find my rolling pin so the wine bottle had to do.

I also don't have a pasta cutter! (rule of thumb, the thicker the sauce, the wider the pasta you should make)

OP - I think you should take one of the suggested recipes in this thread and give it a go, post pictures of the results and let us know how you got on and if we've converted you from being a pre-made lazy bones :p

In all honesty, I think your reasoning behind not making a proper meal is rubbish. It takes practically the same time to make your own as it does ready made (maybe about 5 mins more..) In the long run it is much cheaper as ready made sauces are more expensive. You dont need bundles and bundles of herbs and spices. £5 will get you what you need for basic pasta dishes and you can get a pretty extensive selection to cater for all sorts of meals for about £15....and it'll last you ages.

The following is a weekly dish for myself and the missus since we discovered it and it is so easy it is untrue. You can swop out he brocolli for any robust green vegetable, like Kale.

(Measurements for one)

1-2 x finely chopped (or crushed) cloves of garlic.
1 x finely chopped red chilli (hotness depending on what you like but I use a Scoth Bonnet)
1 x 50g tin of anchovies in olive oil
1x Brocolli chopped up into whatever size you feel like.
1x 75g pasta.
Some cheese to taste (Italian hard cheese preferable).

1. Put pasta in boiling water in a pan. 10 minutes to go.
2. In another pan put in the anchovies, oil and all, with the garlic and chilli.
3. Let it sizzle for a minute.
4. Add the chopped up brocolli, stir.
5. Put a lid on the brocolli and let it sweat but stir it every minute or so.
6. After 10 minutes check the pasta is cooked to your taste and if so, drain then dump it into the brocolli. Stir it again and add some olive oil if it looks a little dry.
7. Serve and add the cheese on top.

You don't even need to season it as you get the saltiness and the heat within the ingedients.

I am single so have to cook for myself every night after work and rarely want to spend a long time preparing food, this way pre made sauce are easy and often far more tasty than i could ever make sauce.
Unless you're spending an awful lot of your time looking for a partner, I'd waged you have plenty of time on your hands in the evening to cook something from scratch and enjoy all the benefits that would bring.

Hell, what do you think you're going to do when you find yourself a girl? Expect the poor lass to do all your cooking for you?!

Take the advice of the overwhelming majority in this thread and learn to cook a proper pasta sauce. Who knows, it might just win that special someone over.

This is the one I use and you could use it for homemade pizza too. Adjust to suit.

Ingredients
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
3 x 400g cans of chopped tomatoes
¼ - ½ tsp dried chilli flakes
2 tsp balsamic vinegar
2 tsp sugar
1 large handful basil leaves, torn into small pieces
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Grated parmesan cheese, to serve (optional)
Preparation method
Heat the oil in a saucepan and gently cook the onion and garlic until softened. Stir in the tomatoes, chilli flakes, balsamic vinegar and sugar. Bring to a simmer and cook slowly for 45 minutes-1 hour. Stir in the basil and season with salt and pepper. This can be left chunky or blended in a food processor for a smooth sauce.
Serve spooned over cooked pasta with plenty of parmesan cheese.
