Hello guys

I was wondering if i could ask for some advice, went on a road trip with my brother and his car decided to do something odd, from time to time it would just "boost" for a split second, no increased engine noise no extra revs from what i noticed, i was in the back seat. Just as if it hit a "power band" it did this randomly, we did not time it.

Does anyone have a idea what the issue may be and if its serious from my vague explanation. He drives it on a daily basis so is a tad worried.

If you require any more info please do not hesitate to ask.

Thank you in advance

This will be an airflow problem won't it? extra air at the intake manifold or similar?

Also thinking the correct word is 'surging'

Thanks Acemastr, not sure whats so ever its been years since i owned a car :P

he drives a :
Nissan Primera 1.8 sport 1999
Petrol

if it is air intake how can we check? bust open the air filter?

Or it could be an ignition issue, usually CPS related that is messing with the ECU firing point. (sudden advance of ignition feels like a surge in power)

If it is this, get it sorted as too much advance can cause a holed piston.

I know this engine from my old Almera, clean the throttle body and if there is a cone filter remove it and go back to the original filter design.
