Washer dryers any good?

My five years as a Domestic Appliance salesman suggests you buy separate Washer & Tumble Dryer. At least if the Washer breaks down you can still wash your clothes in the kitchen sink & still use the Tumble Dryer. Washer Dryers are the least reliable of all Domestic Appliances.

If OldCoals was about He'd recommend LG = Washer & White Knight = Tumble Dryer. :D

I'm going to jump in this thread with a question.

Samsung ECO bubble vs LG Direct Drive vs ????

Which is best when my main concern is the noise? We need a combination washer dryer that is quiet. The direct drives also come in many model numbers. Unsure which to look at. Advice please?

I can't comment on the LG, but we have to keep checking that we have actually started the Samsung. The major noise from it is when it vents to the waste trap under the sink, and that would be the same no matter what machine was there
Sammy model is WD0804W8E for an 8kg/5kg wash/dry

I've read that the dry function is pretty poor, the clothes come out damp despite a long dry. How have you found that?

Nope - really pleased with ours. Just need to remember there is a "dryer fill mark" on the door.
30 mins will see most things "iron dry" (still damp but if you put an iron over them they will be dry) 60 mins sees everything we've thrown in it dry enough to put in drawers, apart from when trying to dry a full set of super king bedding in one go

We have always taken things out after a wash and given them a shake, don't know whether that helps over other people's experiences?

I hadn't looked at Samsung tbh but they seem decent. Which? seem to rate the WD906U4SAGD a bit higher Captain Planet, not awarding it a Best Buy because they don't have enough info on service or customer feedback.

Thanks all for input, some food for thought.

Not one of your choices but we've just bought a Bosch washer/dryer and it's whisper quiet. It's also heavier than the sun but we can't hear it from the next room with the kitchen door open, even when it's on full spin.

I moved from a washer dryer to a washer only and much prefer it due to the larger capacity per wash. I do noticeably less washes a week now which fits in with my laziness.

I *think* it also reduced my bills but I may be imagining that one. And the fact I made things worse by leaving the dryer on for hours as I probably overloaded it :p

Great for saving space. But if you don't need to save space:

Washer dryer means you can only do one load at a time (not one drying while the mother is washing). It means you have a more complicated machine, more likely to break. It is likely to be less efficient at each of the tasks, as it is not dedicated to that task.

I've had a washer dyers for over 10 years and they only thing that gone wrong is a leaky inlet value, which belonged to the washer part of it. Wouldn't say that unreliable.

My new one, A rated, washes and dryers the clothes perfectly.

Haven't said all that I'll only get a a washer dryer if space an issue. Two machines does mean you can do the washing faster. (ie dry one load while washing another.)

Really dumbass question - is there a condensing tray to empty when using the dryer on the Samsung? I can't see anything and there was no mention in the manual, although I don't fully trust these translated efforts :p Where does the water form drying go otherwise?

Surely if its a washer dryer it just flushes it out of the normal waste hose, so no need to empty a tray like a stand alone condensing dryer.

We have a AEG L75480WD and i cant fault it.

3 hours from dirty clothes to clean and dry. it is very quiet too, we have an open plan and we cant hear it when sat on the other side of the apartment( about 10 meters).

Only problem we had was some of the fluff clogging the drain filter, just opened up the emergency drain and took the fluff out.

Thanks again all.

So the plan was to buy the Samsung WD906U4SAGD but at 650mm + the pipes it wasn't going to fit, ended up picking up the LG F1496AD5 instead.

It's only had a few loads through but seems good, although there's quite a long cooldown period after drying a bunch of towels. Weird hearing not much other than the clothes flapping about when it's on after 2 years with a belt driven Currys Essentials washer.
