Mini R56 panoramic sunroof problem - what would you do....

First of all, I really don't believe this is a common problem, I know plenty of people with R50/R53/R56/R57s and none of them have problems with the Sunroof.

Second unfortunatley like people have said, it's your own fault for not renewing the warranty, so BMW will have no sympathy, i've fallen into this trap (Literally by 3 weeks) and my Throttle body went pop, bye bye £300. I soon got a new warranty, for the future read through Warranty Directs policy docs and see if this sort of thing is covered if you're truely worried about it going wrong again.

A few other forums for you to try also:

To be honest Mini 2 isn't that good.

Anyway for people that are interested this is how it went...

Popped into mini and explained to the aftersales woman about the problem "you probably need to lubricate the runners after the winter etc, but if not and we need to order parts and we will try and get bmw to fix it under good will, and quoted some stages it has to go through to get this good will.
I said ok, so any chance you can shut the sunroof for me then untill you can look at it properly. "no problem i will get someone out to look at it for you and shut it" Great...

Guy comes out with his tools... I explain to him that the sunroof is stuck, before i can finish my sentence he says "yeah is it stuck on one side..." yeah... "yeah we have had a few of these in now with this problem"

So then he tries to move it manually for like 10 secs, nah its stuck. You need to book it in to have the frame replaced, maybe a new motor as well and few other things...
Yea we have had this happen a few times now with the frame buckling like this, BMW dont know whats causing it to buckle like this....

GREAT... (at least the technician is confirming to me its a common design problem with the panoramic roof)

Popped back in and he explained to the woman the problem, she then booked us back in for a technician to look over it proporly, and again she mentioned that BMW might be able to do this under their good will but she will have to get in contact with them and it takes a few days...

Well anyway the prices that were quoted on the mini forums were something like £680 for the frame, £350 for the motor, £400 labour.... think it toalled in the end to roughly £1600 for a JAMMED SUNROOF!!! in the end the guy only paid £200 to get it done.

To me it sounds like a design problem with the panoramic sunroof being too complicated for its own good....

Well done. A 4 year necro to laugh at Warranty Direct.

Oooooooooooh put your handbag away, my car only developed the fault today. Warranty Direct don't want to pay for anything they are a total waste of time, they certainly won't pay for sun roof repairs.

They paid for all my repairs and were so helpful about it.

Paid upfront at the dealer 3 times and once at an indy.

Great stuff.

You must have something I don't, every time my mini goes wrong - which is a lot - it's a case of computer says no. Even the BMW dealership said today they won't pay for this.

You'll have to teach me yours ;)

Necroposting

Any post or comment made on a forum thread that is very old, e.g. a thread with the last comment being several months old. This type of posting is often done by those who may have stumbled across a thread using search without realizing no one has been actively talking in the thread. Necroposting is looked down upon among the forum community because it is bad forum etiquette to reply to a discussion that has already ended.

There you go :)

Was about to post something relevant and serious, then I saw the OP post date.

well thanks for the thought! :) I got some good help and useful suggestions from another pleasanter more welcoming forum. If a thread is relevent then it's relevent whatever the age. Why re-invent the wheel? Cue more anal sarcasm.
