*** The Official Dark Souls II Thread ***

A review is just someone's opinion, and I say that as a freelance games journalist myself! If you read up on the game mechanics, and watch a few gameplay videos, you should be able to tell if it's the kind of game you will like or not. The review will just be the confirmation you need. I've never bought a game on the back of my own judgment and been wrong about it.

Exactly :) i just like to see a game get well recieved and understood

9 on edge too, soo excited

Got my PS3 today (4th one) may have a go at this. I got a bit put off by Demons Souls because I didn't understand all the complexities behind the white/black bits and felt I could be doing it 'all wrong'.
Not played Dark Souls either mind.

The white and black tendency stuff was only in demon souls, i never understood it either lol but only went in for 1 playthrough so it didnt really matter

I wonder if the worlds are connected this time

Dark Souls 2 is set a thousand years into the future from Dark Souls 1 and is set in a new area. A lot of the themes remain intact - but we'll have to see.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are both fantastic games and well worth playing. Dark Souls is probably the one to start with though because it's better than Demon's Souls (but Demon's Souls is also quite different).

Ah ok, well maybe I should start with Dark Souls as it's like £15.

Get the Dark Souls Prepare to Die edition, you won't be disappointed. You might as well. By the time you're done with it, we'll have a better idea of how good (or bad) Dark Souls 2 is.

The thing is all 3 games have changes to the mechanics so you may be good to jump in at dark souls 2, im not sure though?

Problem with jumping ahead of a series is that you never feel like going back to the older one cos you will miss new stuff added to the sequels. That is how I would feel anyway.

I mean I have played Demon's and Dark souls so I'm fine, but if I hadn't, I would definitely want to start at Demon's and progress, cos if I started on DS2 and went back I'd feel like I'm missing so much stuff. For example, you might love the dual wielding in DS2 so much, that going back and not having it would hurt!

Besides, you really don't want to miss any of them, they are all great once you get that learning curve out the way.

Ordered it now so will have a blast this weekend, thanks.

Is Dark Souls really a continuation of Demons Souls though?

Not really no, it's not even classed as a sequel, but they are all together in my eyes and all worth playing.

But if you jumped straight to DS2, going back to Demon's Souls might feel really dated, so to prevent that happening, I'd start with Demon's Souls... so worth it!

Sorry, I should have said I did play Demon's, I never got very far but that's not the point. This was mainly me being putting off by the white/black tendency stuff and being terrified of messing up tens of hours of playtime due to using a soul on a weapon too early etc. Often I get too wrapped up in the wiki and don't just enjoy the game for what it is, I shall just try and finish Demons before I look at anything.

No it isn't :)

Both are great but I prefer Demon's.

Noxia I didn't understand world tendencies either at the time and I still got to the end (twice). Amazing experience I think I got over 70 hours out of it.

You sound like me - overthink because of the challenge and then lose the fun you should be having!

Once Ive got the Infamous' out of the way fancy a Demon Souls challenge? Who can finish it faster/more complete without relying on crib sheets?

ps3ud0

Sure I can wait, but I don't know if I'm going to get Infamous or play FF X HD. Still, we can log by hours played, must remember not to leave it idling though in game.

Well its a game date, I need to get my backlog started so its probably best to do something like this. I wont be able to touch til April at a guess - have I got you on PSN?

My first playthrough I completely ignored the white/black tendency feature and it didn't affect me at all, so just playthrough it and enjoy it.

DS2 tip!

When climbing down a ladder, if you tap the sprint button you will jump off - to your death if you're high up.

Worth noting as the game does not tell you this, yet in previous games this action would slide you down the ladder instead.

Sneaky little change
