Bob Crow RIP

Lol at people thinking it was Crow calling all the shots and setting all the strikes. Some people have no idea how a Trade Union works (most of which are more democratic than any other institution in this country). Nothing happens without the members proposing it and then voting for it.

Crow didn't call the strikes, the members did. Crow was just the public figure head - someone for the Mail to throw bile at - and credit to Crow for being willing to stand there.

RIP - a true character of transitional Trade Unionism.

Well said. Nothing gets done without the say so of the members.

"I wont shed one single tear over her death," he added. "She destroyed the NHS and destroyed industry in this country and as far as I'm concerned she can rot in hell."

That's what he said about Thatcher, so hopefully he won't mind people dancing on his grave as well.

you must really hate all those paid holidays and employment rights that the unions got for you

Historically, they may have served their purpose but their bullying tactics have no place in a growing and modern capitalist society.

I'm not going to be baited into an anti /pro union debate. I have my reasons for not liking the unions and no one is go to change my opinion.

Cases like this recent thread on OCuk demonstrate why unions are still needed. The growing gap between rich and poor workers in this country demonstrates why unions are still needed.

Bob Crow's job wasn't to be loved by all, his job was to get the best deal for his union's members.

There was a few days a year where people had to make alternative routes to work, hardly 'controlled'

When I first started working in town it was a pita now it's just meh.

Assuming that the person mentioned is an Optician (seems to be the case at least) then a union is irrelevant.

What a stupid post. For most people living in London they, actually, shock horror, work in London too. It's not a case of get a job somewhere else. I don't care what actually happens behind the scene's of the union. Ultimately this man was the 'face' of the strikes and as such public opinion et al will be directed at him. This was a man who lived in a council house, earned a six figure pay package, regularly went on lavish holidays, enjoyed fine wines and dining, chose to strike first as opposed to a last resort and was an avid Millwall supporter. And those 'few days' actually cost me and other client's £10's of k in terms of lost income. Whilst you may not particularly give a *oss a lot of people actually do and it directly affects their lives.

He was a bully, end of. Let's hope now the transport system can actually move forward without behind stuck in era's long gone.

So what if he still lived in a council house, i just seen that house on the news and it's very nice house, so why move:confused:
Where did you get the info on a strike first:confused:

You're kidding me right? It's just that kind of bloody mindlessness that irritates me about champagne socialists

I doubt this! Strikes are announced in advance any sensible business would have contingencies, obviously yours didn't bother and your lack of preparation cost you

At who's expense?

Not a great example really.. That's what the courts are for..

There will always be a spectrum of wealth.. unless you want communist state.

lol - that's not quite how it works. He's a union leader (or was) not a dictator.

Without unions we wouldn't have the laws in place that protect our employment rights, so court would be useless

I fail to see how you can be anti the political arm of workers I.e unions but pro business which also has political aims
