Bought a nice wine rack and want to start filling it. Only just got into red wine! can only describe my perfect taste as something smooth tasting

There must be some great red wines out there, wondering if anyone could recommend some to try?

Thanks!!

:)

I would always go for a Malbec at this price point. I've rarely come across one I don't like and they're almost always under a tenner.

Can you buy nice red wines for under a tenner?!

I was over in Sweden recently and ended up buying a glass for ~£19 :) Was veryyyy nice though.

.

Yes.

Some great Spanish and Portuguese wine for under a tenner (although it has really crept up these last few years). Try Baron de Ley, Marques de Riscal, torres stuff around that price point and see what you like. French is tougher for less money.

A Rioja Reserva can be obtained for under £10 if it's on offer in supermarkets. Sainsbury's sometimes have a 2011 St Emilion red on offer for £7-8 although I haven't seen it for a while unfortunately (balls just checked, it's currently £11.29, although their own Taste the Difference is currently £9.99!)
Sainsbury's Taste the Difference 2011 Beaujolais is currently within budget and I sometimes get a couple of these in for 'glugging'.

I'm supposed to be working so can't post much more, and I don't confess to being a wine expert, far from it, but I do take an interest in French reds!

Plenty available for under a tenner. If you have one local, pop in to a Majestic and ask the assistant for some advice, they are usually quite good. I love French red but for under a tenner, you'll get better value from the equivalent new world wines (South America, Australia, New Zealand etc...).

Whatever you do, get one of these, it REALLY helps the flavour. You can decant into a fancy wine decanter but for convenience these are ideal, if you don't beleive me do a blind test.

;)

*Edit, should really add that it's wine aerator.

Read two reviews independent reviews both of which do not seem to suggest that a wine aerator does much favours for a wine.

Note that both sets of test were straight out of bottle vs poured with aerator.

I go for £10-12 wines that are 50% off or two for £10.

Once you find the type you like it is pretty easy, I stick mainly to Shiraz with an occasional dip into Merlot/Bordeaux if the bottle looks nice..

I always like the Lagunilla Reserva/Gran Reserva Rioja that Morrisons have on offer quite a lot of the time.

Did anyone watch the Watchdog last year where they debunked these wines - they are basically almost always on promotion are rarely worth the "full" price quoted.

The one good recommendation I did get out this though was to try the "premium" own label wines - so Taste the Difference, Extra Special etc. These are usually £6-8 a bottle and are much, much nicer than the stuff that is usually on offer.

A particular favourite at the moment is:
