Hi guys,

As per the title, is a GTX 690 a good card to get sub £400, with warranty?

Playing most likely at either 1080p or 1200p?

Cheers chappies :)

Right now you can get a 780ti for less than £480, that's probably the best bet because it's not far off 690 performance and it uses a single gpu so less driver issues. plus the 3gb of vram might help

Yes at those res (1080p certainly) then the 2gb per core is enough and the gk104 is still a pretty powerful chip. I would propbably prefer a 7990 (unless nvidia propriatary tech is essential) as tahiti is slightly quicker clock for clock and has a an extra gb of vram per core. But either solution is plenty powerful enough for 1080 or 1200. Upwards of that, i would defo be wanting the 3gb of vram per core!

Wouldn't buy a 2GB card atm (2GB per GPU buffer). Even though the 690 is a beast, an R9 290 or GTX 780 would be a better buy imho.

If it was £250 than I would say it's worth it, over that an a R9 290 would be a better pick..

Thanks for your input :)

Also, you've now got me looking at Xeon CPUs due to a comment you left in someone else's thread :D

GTX690 at £350 would be steal! Go buy! :)

+1

Funny thing happened to me the other day when benching my GTX 690. I set the fan speed to max (95%) and ran the bench, then I thought something was wrong with the fan so I loaded up GPUZ to check. Everything was found to be in working order and then I realised what the problem was...

I had got used to hearing 290X reference coolers running on benches.:D

And glad you +1 Kaap, as I know you've got some 690s etc... & lol on the fan noise, those 290Xs must be some real noisy monsters :D

Got a pair of 670's with blocks, backplates and link for £270, same performance as a 690 and very happy indeed.

Jeffy, were they 2GB or 4GB cards? And a great deal you got there too

2Gb, have found SLI to be very solid and not had any issues either. Don't overlook a pair of GTX670/80's, you'll pay a premium for the single card sli a GTX690 offers.
