Hi

Would the MA silver W12 sub be a worthwhile upgrade from my bxw10? I ypgraded my bx2 speakers for rx6's but still habe the old sub. Amp is an Onkyo nr818. I still have the bx center and bxfx surrounds, should I upgrade these before the sub?

ta :)

Wait till a RX-W12 sub comes up on Ebay, i have waited for some RX-1 for ages but got a ex-demo pair (mint) with 5 years warranty for £320, bargain.

I take it you want a RX-W12 ( to go with your RX-6) which was £750 new and not the new Silver range.

The Monolith Plus is around £550, would it really blow the £1000 W12 out the water as said above?

Ta :)

BK actually manufacture subs for other top hi-fi companies. You're buying from a middleman in effect (they only sell direct).
One particular sub in their range is virtually identical to one they used to make for another company and is almost half the price.

If you want a remote or auto switching they're not a good choice, but bang-for-buck they're generally accepted as the best value subs on the market in the mid to upper mid range - just check out the threads on AVForums.

A grand? Really? My google fu failed me as it was coming up as £450. Still the Monolith suggestion stands, it'll still be better.

is a high end sub really that different from another hi end sub?

RSW12 from rx6 av12 range and i cant imagine how it would be better?

FYI, have a small room only 1.5-2m from tv, wall to wall

Another vote for the monolith. It is bloody huge but it is epic. Took a while to convince the missus that this beastly thing was worth it. But she sees sense now :D

There is a lot of difference between subs, depending on the sound you want from it.

The Monolith is ported and huge with a really low bottom frequency response. It will destroy movie sound tracks but won't be very "agile" if you want to play music with fast basslines through it. For a more tuneful/agile bass grab a sealed sub such as the BK XLS400 but you'll lose some of the scale/power.

I'd say the Monolith would be overkill for that size room - you have to draw the line somewhere and the sheer physical size is not really in proportion. But as ever, it's your ears and opinion that matter

That's a good description

I like an all rounder

Most of the time the setup is just handling standard TV broadcast and the rest is probably a 50/50 music to films split. Fast music at that

I would therefore probably swing away from the monolith?

That's why I got an XLS yes.

My main room is 7m x 4m and it fills that perfectly well. For serious music listening I just run in stereo mode without sub, but that's rare. Mostly I play TV, movies or music in "party mode" throughout the house on my Sonos so a sealed sub on my AV running 5.1 is better for me - I'm prepared to take the small hit on movie playback as I'm in a flat and wouldn't be able to wind the volume up to really take advantage of the sub at reference level anyway.

think my room is about 4-5m by 3m

i doubt the xls would be that much different to what i have now

use music in Dolby pro logic II music usually
stereo tv to Dolby pro logic II
5.1 DTS-MA/HD etc on straight

this is a yamaha-1067- i do like how it handles music

The Mono is actually surprisingly good for a ported sub. Admittedly not as good as a sealed, but the difference is not as bad as you might expect - especially when paired with an Antimode.

It came today, its monsterous LOL. Wieghs more than I do and I'm not joking :D Think its connected right. from sub out on my Onkyo to the right low pass on the Monolith. Sounds pretty damn good:)
