Okay, get into your BIOS and get your manual out (or google) and search for uEFI booting for your motherboard model...

Sometimes in the boot menu it will list the DVD twice once with uefi or efi booting, do you see anything like that?

If you are booting from USB stick let me know.

Ok, have changed atapi to uefi atapi for 1st device. Will now try to boot...

Nope, doesn't fix the problem. Think I need to install windows on a smaller drive and use the 3tb as storage. Shouldn't have to do that really, windows is poor...

no no no wait.... get back into Windows Installer using uefi option again.
1. Shift + press F10
2. get into diskpart
3. lis dis
4. sel dis <number of disk you want to install windows on>
5. clean

Then refresh the hdd page. That will work :)

1. Please make sure to use Windows® VistaTM 64-bit (with SP1 or above), Windows® 7 64-bit or Windows® 8 64-bit.

2. Press <F2> or <Delete> at system POST. Set AHCI Mode in UEFI Setup Utility > Advanced > Storage Configuration > SATA Mode.

3. Choose the item “UEFI:xxx“ to boot in UEFI Setup Utility > Boot > Boot Option #1. (“xxx” is the device which contains your Windows® installation files. Normally it is an optical drive.) You can also press <F11> to launch boot menu at system POST and choose the item “UEFI:xxx“ to boot.

4. Start Windows® installation.

i think using a whole 3TB drive to install windows on is bonkers. if you ever want to format and install/upgrade windows again, you'll have to backup and restore all that data. with another partition, you can leave that data alone without even having to think about it.

To create a partition over 2tb, you need to have a GPT partition. To boot from a GPT partition, you need a UEFI bios.

Pretty sure this is the correct information.

Personally, I'd buy a 120gb Samsung Evo SSD, use that as your boot drive and have 2x 3TB drives for data.

One for your data, the other as a backup of that data.

Also, +1 to what marc2003 said

Yup I agree with this but if you are on a tight budget then I can sorta understand it :)

Fair point. I was focused so much in actually getting the full space to show up that I forgot to create another partition for data.

Will make sure I do this on the next upgrade/install.
