PCGH: What do you think of AMD's Mantle technology?

Richard Baker: AMD came to us and has made a demonstration or a presentation to Mantle, but since it was already a little late to bring with Mantle in production. Mantle is but something we will look at in the future. And if it is as exciting as it sounds - a lot of programmers here are pretty excited when it comes to the potential of Mantle - we are so time to play around a bit once we have brought the launch behind us, and then use it for future games. And maybe if it should bring a huge performance gain, Also for Titanfall additionally.

Google Translate misshaps.

Auch = 'Also, für = 'For, nachliefern = additionally

so the sentence should read

Richard Baker: AMD came to us and has made a demonstration or a presentation to Mantle, but since it was already a little late to bring with Mantle in production. Mantle is but something we will look at in the future. Wouldn't it be down to Valve? It being their engine?

No, you can add it to anything, when you licence an engine you get what comes with it, doesn't prevent you adding anything on, though you'd get support for most of what is in the licence and how much help you'd get trying to get it running something unsupported is questionable.

But I thought Titanfall already runs like butter on modest hardware?

Well yeah, except, you know, the Xbox one, and 360 :p

Not even Mantle can solve these lazy antics. 35GB of uncompressed audio. I mean, seriously, what modest CPU did they run this game on that they felt the need to just dump that unnecessary amount of data for people to have on their HDD. Obviously the XBONE is able to encode at hardware on the fly, but I can't see how performance could have been that bad on PC.

Most people i know that have tryed titanfall see it uses quite a lot of vram, if mantle follows its BF4 memory use not sure if it would be that great for titanfall and people with 2gb cards
Uncompressed :( 35GB is silly

Theyre saying its because of cpu overhead on slower systems but it's ********.

Nevermind lower end systems probably don't have that much free space lol.

Load of rubbish, there are audio libs like miles that can handle stuff like that on Pentium 1s (though really needs a 233mhz P2) let alone a modern CPU. Not to mention there are plenty of RLE type codecs that still give good compression and negligible CPU overhead.
