Can I get sued for leaving a job early ?

So I've been looking for temp work before I go back to uni in October.

The job centre suggested this apprenticeship course. They said it's a legal requirement that I complete the 12 months if I do take it.

Would there be anything stopping me from leaving ?

I remember reading a while back about someone on an accountancy apprenticeship having to pay a certain amount but I don't think that's the case with any others ?

I think in some cases if you receive professional training /certification they can stipulate you would have to pay for it if ypu leave within x amount of time as theyve invested in you ie the accountancy scenario you mentioned.
 
I think that's if you're still claiming the dole they expect you to complete the course, if you sign off you're sweet I would imagine.
 
An apprenticeship would suggest that you'd be put through somekind of qualification, which the company would pay for.. So you may be liable for training costs of thats the case?
 
As Magnolia has said, check the contract, don't sign if it states anything about the minimum length of service etc.

If it does they'd still be unlikely to pursue, but it's far from impossible.
 
For most jobs no you won't get sued though its the decent thing to give them notice and depending on the contract you might have some issues with regard to pay.

For apprenticeships and the likes where your getting specific training then its a whole different story and yes you can be sued for leaving one early.

This apprenticeship hasn't got anything to do with with my career choice I'm just trying to work to save up some money. If I did the full 12 months it would mean not going to do my Masters Degree in October.

Haven't had any luck with the job market and atm this apprenticeship is the only thing that seemed likely.
 
Think it would be wrong of you to take it knowing you have no intention of finishing it, you will be denying someone else an opportunity they might actually want and benefit from. Hit the super markets!
 
Why would you take it knowing you wont finish it when there are plenty of people who would be willing to finish it and probably use it towards starting a career?
 
get a shelf stacking job or join a temp agency? why waste yours and their times doing this if you dont want to and they have to pay out for it?
