Partner agreed that not spending the extra cash was foolish and has come around. She fell in love with the Mini instantly, and whilst the Golf would be more sensible and also fun, she didn't click with it like she did the Mini nor was the grin any where near as big.

Mini will do £5k down, + £180 a month for 3 years, for a very decent specced Cooper S. What kind of extras should we be asking for from Mini for this? Extended warranty, servicing package etc? Any ideas? Advice appreciated!

I think thats the N14 and your dropping out of warranty?

Massive concerns over the cam timing chain tensioner and the 'death rattle'. It it goes its a valvetrain and piston marriage. Inherent issue with that engine.

Pretty much every MINI should have the TLC pack which lives with the car for 5years. Check you have this, does what it says on the tin... well other than the second brake fluid change.

Purchasing used approved from Mini themselves it should come with a fairly pimped warranty that I can then extend I hope, or is that not the case? It's one of the reasons for paying the premium.

I'm wondering if its too much of a premium is too much, and if £11.5k for a 2011 with 10k on the clock is also too much considering the resale value is going to take a hit being a mk2 with the mk3 out this week.

Pimped as in the manufacturer warranty still?

If its a Cooper S.... maybe not, yours wont have a gopping mouth!

Very underwhelmed with the Mini Cooper-S we had. The ride was awful no doubt down to the run flats. My mrs liked it though. I was pleased to sell it.

£11.5k for a 3 year old Cooper S doesn't sound that bad to me, nothing that good around when I was looking last year, hence ending up with a Cooper.

If it's got the TLC service pack already get MINI to throw in the extended TLC XL service pack gives you another 2 years/20k miles of servicing (2 services and a brake fluid change if I remember rightly).

I think MINI are currently doing orange, lemon and lime tarting up packages. Includes various options such as bonnet strips etc. Could be worth a punt if you want any of it.

I thought this could only be added on expiration of the existing service pack, which won't be for 2 years on this car so might not be able to be chucked in as part of the deal?

Yea, I need to find out what kind of warranty and servicing is being thrown in as standard and what the options are for extending them. I want this car to last a good 5 years for her without being too expensive to run, and by that I mean, as long as there's a fixed priced plan involved that's agreeable and the car doesn't blow up, or if it does, its not on her dime.

It will have 1 year of AUC warranty that's then extendable. It's very good. What's the mileage?

10k, apparently chillie pack, bluetooth, half leather etc. Its coming in next Saturday so we shall see

Any car that has/had an issue with the tensioner has been/will be repaired with revised components if the fault happens under warrenty.

Some dealers might tell you that, our local one actually kept telling us we couldn't purchase the XL pack because the original TLC pack had expired

As far as I understand it from speaking to customer service there are only 2 requirements

You can only have the XL pack if the TLC pack has been purchased
You must purchase the XL pack prior to the first service it covers falling due

Haven't there been several 'fixes' though. I know ours went into the dealer a couple of time to be fixed.

Mine went shortly after we bought it in 2012 and they said it had been fixed with the updated tensioner (this was in the October).
It's a 2008 car if that's any clue.

I'm just glad you didn't get the Polo. The CAVE engines smash through oil and need recalling tbh. I've just got rid of mine because VW were refusing to replace the engine, even though it's a well documented fault. I'm talking about 1L per 500-900 miles of usage.
