Yeah I think they need more work done on ships now before trying to flog the idea of something from a couple of sentences. I'm not saying people won't be daft enough to buy them but look at my Xi'an scout, nobody even knows what it looks like yet.. 4 months on!

Note 'rejected' concept art, but i wouldnt be so surprised if it looked somewhat similar, its a start, and hopefully an approved version will come soon.

Good stuff! Nice to see that there is some movement, I am thinking that the end design will be more one dimensional with a more prominent canopy. Willing to wait for the right result! So what happened with the Mustang? Im still thinking about getting another ship before launch.

The X55 is £170, with free shipping (orders over £15) but it looks like they're out of stock at the official UK stockist.

I dunno about linking to the other site (selling peripherals, rather than hardware), so i'll link to the product page which links to a UK buy redirect.
http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x55.html

River site has one for £190 posted too.

Im going to wait a few months i think, see if the OCUK competitor which accepts bitcoins starts selling it, cos they have the X55 for £87 which is an decent price, and Pro for £111, so if they listed the Rhino i'd be quite tempted as i wouldnt have to cash them in to buy it, which i'd have to do for elsewhere, plus they're a few miles from me. I'd certainly imagine i'll be buying hardware upgrades from them in the future because of them accepting BTC and their prices are usually better anyway. OCUK could at least catch up on accepting BTC (they get instantly sold and converted to currency of choice, minus 1% fee).

I would definitely hold off for now, see how the drivers, quality and support are. Saitek sticks are good but the drivers and software tend to be average at best.

Plenty of time for another manufacturer to drop a new stick on the market too and wouldn't we all be a bit miffed if we discovered keyboard/mouse was genuinely just as easy to use...

If it is I will be very disappointed. Dont want to sound snobby here but there is no serious flightsim where you can use a keyboard and mouse, and that is what I am looking for from this game.

I will defo be holding off on the X55 for the moment though, my X52 will be fine with the DFM for a taster.

You do know that it's been said a few times that keyboard + mouse and gamepads will be viable alternatives to HOTAS?

Nobody really knows what will be best, HOTAS clearly for immersion but I'm worried the keyboard/mouse option actually works out better over all! I'm going to plastidip my X52 as the grip has worn off, might just do the entire thing tbh as it's looking worn out :D

I do believe that SC should be as playable on a K+M as a HOTAS setup. The ability to fly using K&M and match a HOTAS should be down to the skill of the individual... For example, I have terrible mouse control at high sensitivity and you would need that get the ship to turn well enough so for me Gamepad is the minimum. No one should really be disadavantaged artificially in my opinion.

Realistically its something that has never been balanced so one controller will have an advantage of some kind, or a disadvantage. Bottom line is that people vary more though, just hope the forums don't force some silly HOTAS bonus on the game.

My issue is that some games that allow mouse are rediculously easy to use over the immersive HOTAS. You have the pinpoint accurary and reaction time, but get faffed over in complex manuevers and multi-task which in some games aren't needed.

It's all up in the air right now though.

The devs have been shown in videos to be using a 360 controller to run around the hanger so I'm going to use that for the most part and see how it plays out.

The advantages of the HOTAS are of course on the fly speed adjustments and a stupid amount of buttons and switches within easy reach. It should be the case that whilst you can achieve the same basic flight maneuvers using a kb/m youre always going to be hampered by the edge of the mouse mat or having to increase speed by increments. Provided HOTAS setups arent artificially hampered to provide a level playing field, ill be happy. I am sure some things will be better with kb/m anyhow - capital ships, turrets, fps etc.

As the guys says, lets see how it plays out - roll on april!

Saw on WMH there's going to be a leaderboard for DFM.. can't think of anything I want less lol.

There will be those who will believe that being on the leaderboard is everything, they are the same people that consistently vote for "moar guns" in any vote for what to do next.

Fortunately, there is a large proportion of the gaming population that will completely ignore it, and just enjoy playing the game.

I for one, am thinking of using the DFM to not only practice dogfighting, but hopefully also get some formation practice in with other members of the guild.

It's a rubberized paint....sort of,
so recolour his grips but not lose grip

Ah cheers!

Leaderboards? yeuch. Yup im loooking forward to the DFm just to start getting a feel for the model, for what the ships can do. Im thinking about buying something to complement the Xian, a single seat fighter like the Avenger. Curious about the Mustang, mainly because it hards back to the P51!
