Our Bullmastiff caught a burglar last night

Classic Don wading in without actually reading first ;)

I've walked (trained and owned) 3 dogs. Sure, not anywhere near professional as Rainmaker, and kudos to him for such a job, must be very rewarding. Sadly, calling me foolish whilst not even reading what I've written becomes slightly ironic...........:)

And I think carrying on is even more foolish. Please stop.

Scruffy smack head looking chav walks into CAB: "Hello, i accidentally climbed over someone's 6ft fence at 10.30PM and got mauled by there dinosaur dog. Swear I was not nicking anything, I know I have been nicked 16 times this year for theft and burglary but this time I wasn't actually doing anything. Can I sue?"

Yeah I could see a chav owning up to that.... Most likely on probation or last warning. OP will hear nothing of it again.

Also people forget this bloke could have been out for anything, not just burglary. But much worse.

Well as it happens there's been quite a spate of home invasions here recently. People tied up, tortured with kettles full of boiling water for the lulz... all that nice stuff. :( So yeah, definitely glad he was here.

Jesus man, where do you live, a movie set? :D

Explain? Occupiers' liability applies when trespassers are injured, etc, for example.

Under that act someone committing criminal trespass is not afforded much protection, and would probably be considered to have "accepted the risk" of such an eventuality as a dog attack, there is also not much the occupier can do to offer any protection against the risk.

Careful, you'll start sounding like one of those USA gun nuts. The situation doesn't need justifying with such excessive paranoia; bad guy goes where he shouldn't, bad guy gets half eaten by one of the residents. All is right with the world.

having just read through the thread, I'm shocked (well not fully) of how many people went full retard.

I wasn't justifying THIS event, I was speaking generally that not all burglars run away when confronted. We have had quite the spate of such events in this neck of the woods over the last few years unfortunately, including people without a penny to their name. :( This one is just the first Google hit I got, to satisfy the 'wouldn't it have made the news?' crew.

Rainmaker, Have you got a beware of the dog sign on your fence at the back ?
Might be worth getting one just to cover yourselves.

Edit : Good boy Hatton, top job lad.

LOL exactly. Good job the dog was there, shame he didnt get some kind of identifier from the criminal, like a hand or summat. ;)

Dangerous dog, should be destroyed.
