Dual Graphics dud: Intel clobbers AMD’s A10-7850K in budget gaming

Thanks Andy interesting read . Be nice if they did the bf4 dx vs mantle tests a few times to see if it was just a variance on game play.Max fps doesnt always tell the tale

Not surprised about performance but price I am. Time and time again you hear price, performance, AMD in the same sentence but not this time.

If im reading the various reviews right, you could also save another £10 by going with a 750 and get very similar results (nvidia just upped the limiters in the latest drivers as people were already hitting the +135 / 1300mhz limit with no problems)

I thought this author was in AMD's pocket and thus when he exposed the dark side of GameWorks nothing he said was to be trusted and it was all lies as he was paid by AMD to write the article. Now he writes something negative about AMD and its open season. LOL. Gotta love the moving goal posts of ocuk. When it suits n all. :D

If this proves anything, it proves that dual-graphic on APC crossfire is largely pointless, considering how much the A10 7850K and 260x without crossfire outperforman the A10 7850K crossfiring with the 250 by so much.

So if anyone is spending at least £80+ on graphic card, they shouldn't even be looking at the APU platform at all, but at CPU such as FX6 or i3 instead.

http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/177677-dual-graphics-dud-intel-clobbers-amds-apus-in-budget-gaming

Matt's mate Joel has posted a review of budget gaming options, couple of surprises, intel CPU out performs AMD's own budget CPU option for gaming while costing less, and intel + AMD GPU in DX out performs AMD CPU + GPU in mantle (latest drivers also cause DX to be slower)

Since no other budget AMD CPUs exist.

LOL.

Firstly, the R7 260X cannot Crossfire with the Kaveri IGP.

Secondly,the A10 7850K costs more than a X4 760K and a FX6300 or FX8320.

You can buy a FX6300 and a Seidon 120M water cooler for less than an A10 7850K.

Most people who buy the A10 7850K have done so for SFF rigs which have little room for graphics cards.

I don't think anyone has suggested dual graphics setups in any builds on OcUK.

Not surprised about performance but price I am. Time and time again you hear price, performance, AMD in the same sentence but not this time.

So one article on one CPU,and now you make a general statement like that?? So out of interest what is your experience of CPUs under £100?

Just asking.

Yet you get a superior performance with the GTX660 and R9 270 for not much more.

Wow shoveling coal in the furnace right from the title.

"but it's from the article" blablabla

OFC,it is.

If this proves anything, it proves that dual-graphic on APC crossfire is largely pointless, considering how much the A10 7850K and 260x without crossfire outperforman the A10 7850K crossfiring with the 250 by so much.

This. The A10 7850K is overpriced ATM,until it hits around £90 to £100.

I consider the A10 5800K just better value at under £80 to £90 now and probably the A8 7600 when it comes out if it is under £90,if you want a system with a reasonable IGP. They are around the speed for current £40 to £50 graphics cards,so are OK for that kind of usage.

The price is an important factor.

It always has been.

The irony of this statement, when he posted in regards GameWorks did you take his word and defend or did you slate it as a load of rubbish ;)

This article proves to me that AMD have a lot of work to do getting Mantle as a viable alternative to DX. The results with BF4 show the slower AMD CPU with 260X can and does catch the faster Intel CPU under Mantle. So in that regard Mantel does show what it can do. Of course this is only in one game and AMD need to get it widely adopted ASAP.

On the other hand for everything else the AMD CPU just sucks. Price/Perf etc is just poor. It will be a long time before I ever consider an AMD CPU for a low end gaming rig, let alone highend. Mantle would need to be in almost every game engine for AMD CPUs to appear on an enthusiast PC gamer's radar IMHO.

Mantle is step in the right direction and I am hoping it, or an improved DX starts to take advantage of all the unused CPU cores lying dormant in our PCs for years.

I took his word for it, as i know hes an unbiased journalist and just reports on facts that he finds through his own testing. Do you see me saying this article is rubbish Stanners? No you don't. The point is the people that were quick to write him off previously are now the ones posting his article and endorsing it as its negative about AMD. Now thats the irony you should be looking for rather than trying to pick me up on it when i never said anything about this article. ;)

There are no driver performance optimizations either for those cards tested in Mantle so you'd expect them to improve that in time.

I will be honest I have no idea if he is right or not!

I have no reason to doubt him (on this negative AMD performance article) as ive got to know him a bit from the time when he uncovered some of the shady practices of GameWorks. He favours neither side and just reports on facts and information as he finds through his own testing. I like his style because he'll be working with AMD/Nvidia to address the problems and is not afraid to update the article if something new is discovered/fixed/resolved etc. When he did the original GameWorks piece though Nvidia/Warner Brothers refused to make any comment or respond to him at all. Nvidia were none too pleased about that article let me tell you. If you google Nvidia GameWorks its the 4th link that comes up.

Ah, gameworks... I remember that thread fondly :-)

But I have now swapped back to Amd, and am still not the least bit worried about that game works and that article. Still think it was a best sensationalist, jumping to far too many conclusions.

Would have stayed nvidia had I liked their surround support more and they fixed their limited colour output over hdmi/displayport. Still don't like them as a company though :-)

Sorry I'm missing something, sounds like you're describing your exact self?

This is a GPU review anyway, hardly the speculative nonsense concerning GameWorks. Besides, seen the Batman Origins bench thread? 290X seems to be doing just fine. A lot better than most of the game bench threads ;)

No need to worry too much as most GameWorks titles are crap, but it could be a worry if a lot more games started using it. That's looking less likely though these days thankfully.

Nothing was speculative in that other article, same as nothing is speculative in this one. If one is kosher, so is the other. As i said, when it suits.

I would have thought you would have been all for it. Cheaper, more efficient and stellar performance.

Never mind, least you don't have to choose between the two in question :)
