Debating aquarium layout...

I cycled my tank with 6 white mountain minnows.

Gave them away to a young fish keeper and added my guppies and got them some friends. Now have 10 guppies, 1 bloodfin terror (I think it's called), 1 sword tail and 2 albino Cory's.

They are all happy and the tank is running great.

I was going to just make a CO2 bottle with yeast and sugar, by drilling in the top of a drinks bottle and putting the stuff in there.

Because that's a cheap way of doing things I have decided to stick with that idea, but get a kit that includes a diffuser etc... so I have got the JBL ProFlora 160. which comes with 80 days of Mixture and then I can use yeast and sugar after that.

It says it's good for tanks upto 200L in the manual despite it being called "160" so I'm hoping it will be ok :)

I figure any CO2 is better than none! I have read reviews of it leaking the mixture into the tank when people have over filled it. Although I will take care to do this, I may also add another smaller botting in line with a little water in so that if it does spill voer it will go into the 2nd bottle instead of my tank.

Don't forget to use liquid carbon along the side of co2, it has done wonders with my tank and does keep the algae under control :)

Added the CO2....Ignore how the plants look for now, I had to uproot a few and move them to make space.

This is how the actual difuser looks... (I swapped all the black fittings, tubing etc that came with it for clear ones.)

It's a little on the large side so I have tried to hide it in the plants...

The idea with positioning it here is that any bubbles that aren't all disolved will float up and into the bottom of the powerhead which will chop them up and spit them out accross the tank :)

I've added another smaller bottle (lucozade lol) in line with the other bottle incase anything over flows so that **** won't end up in my tank.

No bubbles yet, but the idea is there lol :)

Turns out the seals on the lucozade bottle weren't air tight. Also the non-return valve that is supplied with the kit is a piece of crap and doesn't allow at to travel in either direction so I replaced it.

Seems to be working now :)

Thanks for that :)

Looks like the CO2 is working without the extra bottle, I was just scared of any overfill, but I think the people who've reported that probably filles the canister up too much :)

Turns out the Cardinals they had in the shop have been raised and are currently in hard water.

The guy in the shop said he's had them in hard water for years and they are thriving.

How oftendo people check their water parameters? Mine never seem to change so I was thinking of checking less.

Had a brand new fish die today :( I bought 3 Ottos and gradually acclimatised them by floating their bag in the tank and adding a tiny amount of my water over the space of about an hour when I let them swim out into the tank.

They had been in the tank for about an hour when I noticed one wasn't moving. Checked again a little later and it still hadn't moved.

It was dead on the glass at the back of the tank :(

I'm gutted, I don't understand what's happened.

My water parameters remain unchanged and still spot on. :(
