Hey all,

I'm wondering if I should buy a 280, or keep saving till I can get a 290?
Tbh I might just be being impatient :p

It's just I only have one 1080p monitor and was never really sure if I was planning a 290 for the prestige or coz I needed it.
Is there much Difference between them, or should I get the 280 and continue with my build plans?

I'm so indecisive :p

So the GPU will be placed in my current PC and brought forwards as I update the entire thing.

Current CPU: i7 920 (4Ghz)
Current PSU 750W (I'm at work don't have make available)

Future PC will be what money allows, looking at 4770k I'll see what happens.

I currently play BF3 (Might buy 4, wanted to wait for GPU)
But mainly I'm planning on the future PC to be Ready For Star Citizen full settings etc.

If it were me i would not buy a 290, seems a lottery as to whether you will have a stable card or not. People will want to know what games you are playing to advise better what gpu to buy, but in the realms you are looking at, a 780 would be a good card IMO.
Also need to know system specs especially PSU and CPU.

I would keep saving and see what happens at GDC. At least then you migh have a better idea of when new stuff is going to drop. Also near the time current cards will get some nice price drops..

Hmm.......Hmmmmmmmmmm
.......good point....Knowing me I'll just decide to wait for one of them :p
Is there predicted to be much hardware announced?

You could always wait for the next best thing though and never buy anything...
as for 290 cards just search black screens and throttling due to temps (on the reference cards mainly) and intermittent low fps etc.
Their are some that are more than happy but also some that aint Read Here

Some times it pays to have patience. Especially so close to new stuff being unveiled. Wouldn't want to jump into 28nm now when 20nm is potentially just round the corner.. The other benefit of waiting is mahoosive price drops on the current crop of cards.

If you did buy a 280x now you could always sell it on to upgrade later in the year while enjoying the improved performance until then. My 6950 plays BF4 at 1080p with low custom video settings and rarely drops below 60fps except in the very intensive maps now my CPU is overclocked to 3.5Ghz. I have just ordered a 280x which should improve things a lot.

Save and buy a 780 Ghz edition (EVGA, Gigabyte, ZOTAC, etc)
