Hola amigos. I landed myself in a bit of a ditch spending too much money on console games :( the PC master race spoilt me with it's steam deals.

I've found a sick little app for Android (http://bit.ly/OmrC0r) that lets you search for people in xx miles radius and what games they have/want. There's a fair few people using it near me in London but not enough that it's super easy to trade, figured I'd try here to get some of you lads using it, I'm on there as Carnabyford, so if you find me nearby and have something I want, hit me up :D

It's a pretty sweet idea TBH. Be handy if your skint and feel like a trade!

Right! If it actually got going, anyone living in a populated city could pretty much trade with ease, or just post from all over the UK, rather trade game for game than be dishing out money every time - think of all the mugs that are handing over £40 games to gamestop for a tenner off some **** like CoD Ghosts, ugh.

Psycho I have heard of Gumtree, but I don't use it, and I'm a gamer, so I wonder how many other gamers don't bother, because it's not marketed towards gamers and there's not much on there for me, especially trade wise, if I want to buy a game then sure, gumtree or ebay works. Gumtree also doesn't really tell me if someones just around the corner or a 30 minute trek away, this does.

You can put your post code in Gumtree and search by miles.

Lots of people on there looking for trades and selling and buying games for cheap.

Maybe you should try it out it's got millions of users unlike these apps there is another called game stacker too which is just as bad for number of users.

Gumtree is far better

If I want to buy a game for £30, yea. If I want to trade my own games for ones I want, then no, it doesn't happen on gumtree, which is what I think is missing.

plenty of people ask for swaps on gumtree.

maybe you should have a look?

obviously though it's hard to find someone who has the game you want and is willing to swap it for the game you have which you don't want.

it's far easier to just sell and buy. also i've seen ps4 games for as low as £15 on gumtree.

Really? nice!

I just like the idea of jiggster I guess, at your fingertips. Obviously it's an idea that requires a lot of users, but I'm thinking in terms of not what it's like now but what it could be like with gamers using it as their go-to trading space.

that's the thing though specialised apps or websites normally never do as well as general ones.

take a look at ebay it's so popular because it sells everything from screen protectors to cars.

gumtree is popular because people use it for job/home hunting as well as buying and selling, etc.

i like the idea, but it's very niche therefore it won't get popular, it's trying to solve a problem which doesn't exist, gumtree already does what these apps do. gumtree also has a app, so that's why I cannot see this taking off.

Hey Sonny

Found this whilst looking for something else via google!
As someone who has been involved with Gamestacker and Jiggster (Jiggster is just Gamestacker 'revamped'. Better app, new look, bigger budget etc) thought I'd post a quick reply.

The idea behind Jiggster isn't so much about solving a problem that isn't there, its about making something more efficient.
Jiggster is niche, however gaming is a very large niche area.
Similar to autotrader being Niche for cars...its popular because enough people own cars for it to work. This is what is trying to be achieved with Jiggster (only obviously for games...not automobiles!).

When I was looking for my last car I checked ebay and gumtree...but I checked autotrader first as it was another channel designed specifically with selling cars in mind.

Gumtree users can post a game and state they are happy to trade, but this then requires a wait for people to individually reply and type out games they own, in order to sort out a deal...
Whereas Jiggster will automatically bring up users who want your game, and make instantly viewable everything they have to trade in return.

Gamestacker was never promoted past initial beta testing before it was completely redone as 'Jiggster'.
And Jiggster has only just launched its Beta, and is yet to start promoting (currently concentrating on making the product as good as it can be)...
It is a vicious circle when first starting. For the app to be useful it needs lots of users, but to gain lots of users the app needs to useful!
Like all things it takes time to make people aware of it and start getting used to the idea...
But we'll keep working at it, and hopefully at some point in the future when we've gained some traction, we can impress you enough to be one of our users! :)

Cheers!

lol!
To be honest, I am personally the same with new stuff...
It took me two years to get on facebook because I thought 'what's the point? I've got myspace?'....and have only JUST got instagram, because I thought 'what's the point... I've got facebook?!'.
I just have to remember not everyone in the world is as close minded and unwilling to give new things a try as me!

I hope it takes off and works but for that to happen a lot of people need to be using it.

Being in Glasgow I just did a search and yup, not a single person within 25 miles is on there, therefore essentially a waste of time for me.

I would love to be proven wrong, I just don't see this working, it's a great idea, it's just a shame you couldn't of invented it before gumtree.

That's why auto trader is so successful it's been around for decades and has evolved with the times, there is now a website and an app, before it used to be a magazine you picked up at petrol stations, etc. It has a HUGE history and brand behind it.

You cannot base your success off something niche that works that also has competition when it's been a major brand for many years before that competition came along.

Instagram took off because it's integrated with facebook, twitter, etc and these are all very successful companies it has aligned itself with.

I'm just being realistic I cannot see this getting big. Your biggest major competitors are ebay, gumtree and game, these places all allow people to sell, trade or buy games, etc and have been around for donkeys. You a very very small fish in a large pond with a few sharks. In fact theres hundreds of forums out there where people buy, sell and swap games too, including this one. I'm pretty sure there was a website which done this, allowed people to swap games, etc, am I right? What happened to that website?

The idea is great, but it takes a lot more than a great idea to be successful. Many better ideas have failed and will continue to do so because the market was already saturated or owned by more successful built up brands.

The only way this would work is if you integrated it into facebook and got gaming magazines, youtube gamers on boards on board which takes money.

I'll come back in a year and do a search again in Glasgow, see how many are on there then.

who's to say Jiggster aren't doing all of the above?... ;)

Instagram took off well before being bought out by facebook. They sold it to facebook for a billion dollars.

and yes like I said its tricky...but its not impossible, and I don't claim to guarantee success..... but its not impossible for new brands which have competition to do well. Look at 'tinder'....as if the romance/relationship app market wasn't already saturated...that seemed to come out of nowhere and go 'boom'. I wouldn't have seen that getting big a year ago if a guy came up to me and told me he was going to bring that out...
It is unlikely anyone will be on it in Glasgow for a while unfortunately, as Jiggster will be concentrating on London based Marketing initially.
At the moment I wouldn't expect anyone to be on it in Glasgow!

The people behind Jiggster know a fair amount about building brands, and are one of the bigger 'sharks', so if it stands a fighting chance.... the right people are behind it.
It would be naive to think you could just tell a few friends about it and hope that does the trick! We aren't relying on that :)
