I fly into Melbourne and out of Perth. I am super exited so what should I see and do? I was thinking of going to Sydney also.

Have a BBQ, drink some Fosters, then come back home and pretend like it was profound life altering experience. Enjoy !

Do a
Koala
Kangaroo
Wombat
Duck billed platapus

See a
Deadly spider bite

Anyway,
Melbourne, garden city etc, hit the tourist info centre, see the top six things is my actual advice. I did this for the smaller towns around Australia, it was good to see caves caverns and things people usually don't mention.

To Perth?
Rottnest island. Is a must, do some snorkelling. Really cheapo accommodation as well on the island.

Witches hat backpacking hostel is really good, if your looking for that kind of thing.

Also did a 10day tour upto broom. Which was amazing. Just due to the random group. Get a flight back or some other way, don't just do the two day bus trip back, no one does, I was on my own in the way back, however due to that did it one non stop go.

Little creatures in Fremantle is very good.

Edit - oh right, how you getting from Melbourne to Perth, that's going to take most of your time.
If its a group of you hire/buy a car(no idea how easy that would be), if its just a you/couple. See if theres any back packing tours.

don't forget to bring it up in conversation at every opportunity for at least 12 months after returning.... 'Ah thats like this one time, when I was in Australia....'

We're doing the west coast next month starting in Perth. Pinnacles NP looks stunning, same with Wave Rock, everything else we're doing is probably too far north.

The south of WA looks like it has some stunning national parks/wilderness. Cape le Grand looks stunning, along with the valley of the giants. There are some seal colonies on the south coast as well. The Margret river is also a large wine growing area if you're into wine. All south of Perth.

Pinnacles is under whelming. Din't do wave rock.

Margaret river boat wine cruise was awesome.
Broom was great.

Just not time to do everything, most people dint appreciate how vast Australia is. So much I wanted to do, not nearly enough time, despite spending a month their.

If you get some time/chance, spend it with some Aussies and their hospitality it's brilliant.

Did the booking work out for you? Just did a check for me the wife and our 2yo to go out in November to see my parents and it came out at just under £1200 surely that can't be right. If it is then I guess we're going as well lol.

Melbourne won't be the greatest weather in April.

The Melbourne international comedy festival is on from late march for a month, its like the third biggest after Edinburgh and Montreal, I'd definitely recommend checking a show or two out.

Also try and get to an AFL game at the MCG, there are usually about 3 a week there, preferably one with 2 Melbourne teams, Essendon vs Carlton, Collingwood vs Geelong, Richmond vs Collingwood, Collingwood vs North Melbourne and Geelong vs Hawthorn are all on in April and should have 50K plus crowds. Tickets are dirt cheap if you are used to sporting events over here (about £15 for GA tickets)

We will have a 4x4 and intend to spend a lot of time taking photos, the pinnacles look ideal backdrops for that and we only intend to spend a few hours there. It's only three hours out of Perth as well so pretty easy.

Meh, one of the reasons we chose the west coast was because it's one of the emptiest parts. We're surrounded by people all day every day in the UK, it's always nice to not see another person for a few days!;)

I know what you mean about time though, it's going to be annoying for us and we'll miss so much but we'll also see so much so...

Just make sure you have a heavily armored vehicle to protect you from... well.. everything...

I love Aus, and tend to go every other year. If you're in to your photography the light their is amazing for it.

My 'usual' route is to fly in to Melbourne, then drive to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road. I then fly into Sydney, before flying back to Melb for the flight home.

I've done that route probably 3/4 times now and always find new stuff to look at! It's an expensive trip though - that route costs me about 4k in flights, hotels, car hire etc. Ye gods, shouldn't have thought about that. Ummm.
