Hey
Just what the title says ,which card is going to be more reliable ,powerful and just better in general ?
And which one is going to run cooler,be quiter?

Im asking as im planning on exchanging now my second sapphire r9 280x toxic due to it getting artifacts.
My budget is £410 maximum but I would prefer the card to be under £400.

My system is:
Asus z87- A
i5 4670k not overclocked + noctua d14 cooler
Corsair RM 750W
WD blue 1TB
Coolermaster 690 III

Thanks

I think most people favour the 780 tbh but as a 290 owner myself ... I'm biased.

Cue all out war from Green and Red camps!

Tried a few 780's and 290's, settled on the one in my sig. Both the same speed 780 and non 290, just with different features. I do wish I had shadowplay though, but I also like the potential of mantle.

Toss up to be honest. Not so sure about 'problems' with Amd cards, funny I've never had any, my current card has been perfect. The 780 seems to be about as good, I just preferred the 4Gb vram and 512 bit bus for future proofing and also mantle, if it delivers its promise, though I remain unconvinced, also trueaudio sounds amazing(no pun) and I'm hoping Thief benefits shortly. Which card suits your needs should be your basis for choosing. :)

I dont think issues like black screens should come into it, we had RMA figures on this forum for Nvidia and AMD and they were so low, it isn't worth basing your decision on.

Have a reference 290x and love it. Clocks to 1281/1550 and has never given me an issue. If i didn't like benching so much, probably would have gone for a 290 pro and put the extra cash towards Crossfire.

Get either the 780 or 290. I personally wouldn't bother with a 290x (unless you're heavily into benching), since there's almost no difference between that and a 290. My own choice would be a 780.

Depends what games you play imo, if a lot of physx titles or ones that favour Nvidia then 780, if a lot of games that favour AMD or have the promise of Mantle then 290.

What about the noise and temperatures ???

Either card with a non-reference cooler will be cool and quiet, though the 780 reference model is far, far superior to the 290 reference one (the 290's are designed to handle the heat anyway, though you can hardly call the reference cooler quiet).

Get a 780 that is factory overclocked to 1Ghz+. Like the EVGA, Gigabyte, PNY XLR8 OC, ZOtac etc.
