Oddball -Colt Ralliart opinions.

I was looking at the Colts, I really like them but the dash and plastics are grim however if you can put up with an MR2's interior you should be happy with the Colt's, they are rare so no unwanted attention, the five door is even rarer and looks better than the 3 door, they seem quite well priced for their age too

I've never seen a 2ZZ MR2, bet they are fun

Disagree with that, the Mk3 Mr2 has a very basic interior but with reasonable plastics. The colt has an interior that is ok style wise but uses absolutely horrible material - I honestly wouldn't usually care, but it really is exceptionally bad.

The 2zz conversions come up every now and then, I had a ride in one but it was poorly so didn't really get a feel for how it would be when completed. They don't really command much of a premium as there's a pretty small list of people who want them - but 190bhp in something that weighs circa 1.1t, can chuck the roof down and offers mid engined handling isn't to be sniffed at for the money.

Of course you need to forgo any real hint of practicality, I managed day to day with the covers removed from the rear storage area and by using what little space there was under the bonnet but it's not a car to have as an "only car" imo.

Insurance is usually a non issue - typically they'll look at what the engine has come out of and make a judgement from there

I'd probably have a nice (if they still exist) mk2 beams engined car over one any day if it wasn't a car to be driven daily. Just that little bit more practicality.

I looked at these as replacement for my Fiesta ST. Wanted something with similar power but more potential for tuning as it has a turbo.
Found that the interior was a bit too cheap for me. Not as nice as the Fiesta. Felt a bit too high as well.
Personally depending on what you've had before they are nice cars and not many about.

Looks a bit junky and a totally different proposition to a 147 GTA. Do you actually know what you want or are you just browsing Autotrader for random hatchbacks? I'm not sure how you'd ever end up looking at both a Colt and an Alfa 147 GTA unless thats what you were doing.

It's not quite as bad as considering a Ferrari F430 or a Ford Ka but it's a similar principle :p

Random I know but in the same current value bracket although at different years and mileage. Basically the unexpected demise of my current car puts me in a position where I need a new car and am torn by various practicalities. I had a mk2 mr2 just now and that's in the process of write off evaluation and I loved that car but don't want another 15 tk 20 year old car thats going to rust , leak etc. I have a max budget of 7k don't do many miles but want a car that can make me smile , not in a grimacing am I going to die today way like my mr2.

I am also saving to buy a house and currently have no garage etc.

Things like a3 v6 4 motion have come to mind too as they lack r32 scene tax. Mad jap import is out. Ep3 has been considered6 etc.

What changed then?

Absolutely nothing?

Did you not read what I posted or are you being typical, it feels quicker, the seating position is lower to the ground, it has next to no refinement, its louder and feels lighter.

Also its not just me that knows the book figure for the Corolla seems off, its a well known thing

If you drive a Colt please post your thoughts, they still interest me

I test drove a 09 colt when I was car hunting at the time.

I just couldn't live with that interior. It was horrific.

I keep coming back to the celica and 350z with the zed being the better (heavier) car but also the most costly to run.

I'd settle for a celica trd sports m if I could find a good one for 5k. A 350z gt4 came up for sale just recently too..

£5k is far too much to spend on a celica imo even if it's got the trd tat on ( I say tat, I actually like a lot of it but you know what I mean) - They're absolutely ancient and weren't expensive new, £3-3.5k at most for one imo - it'll be the exact same car.

The nissan is a significantly "better" car for that kind of money. The toyota is a tidy handler and nippy at the top end, but the nissan has a better (though still very plasticy) interior, a much better engine even if it's not ultimately a lot faster, drives the right wheels, sounds great and tbh looks far more the £5-6k car than a celica ever will.

I don't get this. If you can live with the compromised space of a 2 seater with a stupid rear brace why even consider a Celica that's just a slightly prettier hatch rather than a sports car.

Yea the Trd would just be for jdm smugness really and that it's not6 just a body kit edition. It is a genuine special hardcore spec.

I always wonder about the zed and it's weight factor. And the gt4 edition does look sweet but I know it's going to throw up bills twice as big and twice as hard than the toyo.

Yea but like what? If I could buy an s15 2005 with 60k on the clock for 6 grand I would but these kind of cars don't exist.

Don't really understand what's worrying you about weight? It's heavier but more powerful to (more than) make up for it.

Worst thing that tends to go on them is clutch/fly - pre empt by getting one that's had a relative recent new one.

If you want a roof and some sort of boot the 350z is a good option for say £6k

I've also never heard of a GT4 edition 350z? Though i'm far from up to speed on them *edit, just looked it up - I don't see anything worth paying extra for with that tbh (though it'd be funny if it still had the console etc)

All the trd celica is going to give you over a normal vvtli is suspension that you can't really replace like for like without spending a fortune and more noise in what is already quite an unrefined car imo

Doubt you'll be able to tell there's 20bhp difference tbh. If it's the same price as a normal GT then fine, go for it - otherwise I don't really see the point.

It is more but 20bhp out of the 350 z could cost a bit factoring in headers, intake and exhaust. ..

plus special editions usually hold value better. And I hear it has a stiffer block..

It would cost a bit to do yes, but I can't see why you'd bother when the standard car feels just right power wise and honestly, it'll make next to no difference in real world oerformamce

Special editions do usually hold their money better but unless you're getting something useful from it then I don't really see why you'd want to fork out more to start with

You're looking at about 8k for a decent one by the looks of things. 2k more than a decent 2005 or 2006 gt

That's 2k for ugly wheels and 20bhp

Anyway what you really want to do is spend about 3.5k on something with 230bhp, a couple more seats, nicer interior and in oh say...imola red....keep the change for maintenance

Mileage on 200sx's really isn't an issue, all that really matters is how much rust they have. S15's are expensive though so I'd stick to modded s14a's. However quite a few people on SXOC moved onto s2000's and that's probably what I'd have looked at when I got rid of mine if I could have lived with the lack of space.

If you can live with a lack of involvement but just want something fairly quick and sort of modern then you could do worse than look at a 9-3 Aero.
