Hi,

Having a bit of an issue with cats (I think) messing in the flower beds.
Seems to be a little present for me left most nights now.

Some of our beds are soil and some weed membrane and bark. This doesn't seem to make any difference, they'll happily poo in either. In fact, over winter I weed membraned over the vegetable planter and have found a couple of presents left neatly on top of the weed membrane.

Anybody have experience of the various cat deterrents on the market? Any of them actually work?

I was thinking of rigging the sprinkler up to some sort of PIR. Do you think a few weeks of getting wet would deter them from coming back?

I've tried everything from citrus peel to citrus scented silicone pellets, pepper and those 'sonic' sound box things.

I have a trough in the garden that I'm currently growing garlic and onions in - it was literally covered in cat turd. (A large freezer bag full to be graphically precise).

THE only thing that has worked 100% are the silhouette cats with the marble eyes. Amazon list them as 'scare cat' but they are around the £6 mark each.

Just to warn you, if you do go for one of these, check with the seller first as some of them include a ground spike and hanging hook, while the three I just ordered to put elsewhere in our property do not come with these (something I found out after ordering).

I wouldn’t waste your time with anything else to be honest – I have so you might as well learn from my mistakes!
 
My parents put a load of twigs/sticks in the flower beds to stop the cats from getting into the "squat" position. It apparently worked very well.
 
Get some hawthorn sticks/twigs and lay them in the beds. My next door neighbour does this and he never has a cat problem.

One of my cats poos on the surface, but it's probably too lazy to bury it.

You can't buy lion poo, this is just something you've read somewhere.

You can get stuff soaked in lion poo essence, but I wouldn't bother.

Silent Roar came out on top in a survey by BBC Watchdog into cat deterrents for the garden. They found that after just 3 hours of putting the pellets down, no cats visited the garden!

Silent Roar used to be sold as a cat deterrent, however the natural make up of the product has prevented the manufacturer getting the product the necessary new EU certification for chemicals, as it's not a chemical and the make up of every batch of lion poo is different as it depends on what the lions have eaten. you can probably get some free if you have a zoo close to where you live.

any poop from a big cat should work

STV610 Cat repeller. Got one in my garden and not had any troubles with next doors cat. I would advise getting the 9v plug adaptor (extra) as the batteries do tend to run down quite quickly.

On the flip side, I had two of these in my garden for quite a while and the cats from the neighbourhood could not care less after a couple of days of confusion.

I'm now considering one of these due to no hose access in the front garden;

I guess its no worse than the racism and religious extremists we have in GD. I guess everyone is allowed an opinion and its clear that both davido_labido and finga just hate cats.

Didn't expect this kind of full retardation in Home and Garden though.
 
Next door neighbour has three elderly cats, one of which at least craps in my back garden. There is also another cat which roams around who I think has decided to start crapping in my front garden.

I think the one I have stuck out front has worked, but cannot be sure about at the back yet. Ideally I want to make sure the problem at the front has been fixed, as I could really do with using both out of the back.

If they do not seem to have worked, I will be trying the lion poo pellets.

Also going to install strips at the top of my side gate to stop the roaming cat from coming in. Found the bugger in my house twice this year!
