Looking to go on hols with mrs psd99

Looking mainly for relaxation and somewhere we not been before.... the Caribbean!

Budget - £2 - £2.5K

Length - 7 nights

Flying from Gatwick/Heathrow

Part of Caribbean - unknown

Any of you have any recommendation!?

I've been to Jamaica twice and loved it, blue lagoon, dunns river falls, frenchmans cove, blue Mountain coffee and appleton rum tours.
all inclusive is probably the best way to do it.

cant you stretch to 2 weeks, 1 week in the Caribbean seems very short for such a place.

I have paid just under 2k for 2 weeks in Cuba in May all inclusive and that includes 5 nights in Havana all be it that part will not be all inclusive.

Ive been to Jamaica and Cuba, Jamaica was alright but full of drug pushers, not my thing.

Sack off the Carribean and go to Mexico, much fun to be had.

x

Cuba is awesome and very relaxing , had a beach to myself back in 2006 as far as the eye could see.

That was on Cayo Santa Maria island just off of Cuba.

Atlantis - Paradise Island - Bahamas
Or be a cheap skate and stay next door at the comfort inn, but have free access to all the atlantis facilities :)

most exciting, such people, that atmosphere! electric!

forever alone.jpg even on holiday!

I know what my eyes want to see when I'm on a beach ;) the assets of womankind

You're getting close to rainy season. Somewhere easterly like Barbados or one of the smaller islands might be drier.

I went to Antigua in 2012 twice. Once in January, second time at the end of May. The weather was MASSIVELY different. Not a cloud in the sky in Jan, May however was windy and cloudy, not great for lounging on the beach/by the pool.

I'd definitely recommend Antigua as a destination though, we stayed at Sugar Ridge (http://www.sugarridgeantigua.com/) which was a brilliant hotel and was kitted out with a rasta dude that would drive you 5/10 minutes to the beach in a 4x4. Antigua also has 365 beaches, can't go wrong!

I have visited about 16 Caribbean islands as part of a cruise back in 2001. Plus I've been to the Bahamas about 5 times.

As mentioned above, Atlantis, this will be the most upscale part of the Caribbean. (Really its for tourist Americans wanting a Disney like experience) The Bahamas is an otherwise small island...

Other places that are nice, are any of the European governed islands, such as St Maarten, Martinique, St Thomas, Aruba.. The self governed islands, outside of the main downtown, which will include some colourful architecture, will be quite shanty and mostly rundown.. Obviously the beaches are nice ALL OVER the Caribbean, and the inland is typically tropical forest like. Some have nice trails, with waterfalls etc...

Have you thought about a Cruise, and visiting a few of them?

Also end of May, that's getting close to Hurricane Season, which starts on the 1st June... You'll be subjected to heavy rains every afternoon like clockwork, if your holiday extends into June. It's also getting too hot around that time. Now is the PERFECT time of yr to go, if you're able too.

oh so may isn't good ok that's bad

we are looking to go the last week of may itself - be back by 1st june

not sure about a cruise - don't find it interesting!

I have just come back from a 2 week caribbean cruise and its up there with the best holiday i have ever had!!! Look at cruising as a way to see many islands in a short space of time, that way you can make up your mind as to where is best for a land based holiday!
From what i saw, i want to go back to Antigua or St Lucia, both stunning for me. However we will be doing a "western" caribbean cruise to see others ie Mexico, Jamaica and hopefully at some point Cuba..
You will love the caribbean full stop!!! :)

Cuba!!

We've found it to be much cheaper and there is more than to just sit on a beach and drink.

there is history, architecture and the 1950's style american cars!
But what part of cuba should we stay in!?

Good choice, and May is fine.

Have a look at Cayo Santa Maria it's part of the Cayo Islands but a lot smaller although I think they have built more hotels on there since we went in 2006.

Or try mainland such as Varadero which is where I will be going this year. Whatever you do try to stay in Havana for part of your trip!
