Odd comment considering windows phone is not windows 8.

You can use the same M&KB with Windows 8. I don't see the difference.

Yep mouse and keyboard is the same to me and I don't use touch or have a touch screen,Win8 is really a simple OS(been that way for decades really) and I do wonder sometimes about some users comments.

I can understand anybody not liking any particular OS but don't tell me it's hard to use with a simple mouse and keyboard,as to Win7 being superior with mouse and keyboard over 8 well sorry does not cut it with me and that's all I ever use for the most part(gaming I use joypad and joystick for some driving and space games).

Personally I can't stand touch,I like a clean monitor screen ie fingerprint clean .

I was a die hard Win7 fan and hated Win8, but after using Win8.1 now for a few months I am impressed with its speed and stability, I have seen the light hallelujah!

I like both. Can work just as well on both, but Win7 is on my desktop and I feel no need to upgrade at the minute, Win8 came on my laptop, so that's what I use!

I'd largely stopped using the start menu anyway. All of my common stuff is pinned to the taskbar, and for everything else I just use the windows key and start typing!

In all fairness, Windows 8 is bloody brilliant. I couldn't give two danglies about the old start menu, since 99% of the time it's Win key > type in what I want > enter.

It feels far snappier and I actually like a couple of the metro apps, splitting the screen in half on my second screen and having ts in one half and the metro skype in the other.

I use some start-menu program (Iobit iirc), and some days I forget I use 8.1.
Metro just a click away, but just like Win7 as far as I'm concerned...

I said Windows 7 is the better interface for M&KB users, which makes sense considering it has 20 years of development on such a platform, compared to Windows 8 which is a "cut and shut" of Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7.

I will move over when Windows offers a better interface for M&KB than what it does currently. I'm not sure what the point is otherwise.

Still disagree. Windows 8 is just as good as windows 7 on a mouse & keyboard, if not better (the right click on start button to get to various settings is a touch I like a lot).

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. A lot of users struggle with technology and the change is too big for users to get a hold of. I am not talking about 'technical users'.

Windows 7 is far easier in terms of usage than Windows 8. Forget speed, forget price, forget stability and think usability.

But I'd bet you that most of those users have now got iPhones/iPads/ Android phones or tablets, and find their way around that interface just fine. I think they too will find their way around metro just fine.

It's just not as all round tight and slick as Windows 7 to use. There's a huge amount of wasted space all in the name of being usable on touch - something which just doesn't matter when you have the precision of a mouse.

I can also click once from the desktop to access my most used settings menu. It's called Control Panel.

Yes because tablets are touch screen enabled not mouse or keyboard. If the users monitor was a touchscreen it would be fine but remember users still have keyboard and a mouse attached.

Upgrading to Windows 8 with touch facilities isn't cost effective for businesses.

Example.....
I will give you an example of cost breakdown.
If we were to upgrade all monitors to touchscreens where I work @ £200.00 a monitor... we have around 6000 devices. This would cost £1200000 ... not a good move is it?......

can I use this method and install w8 on another hardrive of mine?
or does it need to replace the w7 installation, only my w7 instalation in not on a ssd like i want w8 to be!

You should be able to activate using your upgrade key.

I did say in my previous post

I could also argue what's hard with clicking in Win8?.... But then with respect you probably come out with a comment like it takes 2000 clicks to get somewhere,where it takes me one or two clicks max .

I'll say in some ways Win8 has a more flexlible interface then Win7,but then neither is considered rocket science or anything but easy to use,any easier it will be console level IMHO.

Some of us are tired of users being spoon fed especially with simple modern Windows,lets be honest its not hard unless you are lazy and have no intention of learning ANY OS you use,I've no formal PC training and when I was at school calculators were still new but even I 'm amazed at some users attitude and that's not just with Win8.

I'll say sure they could have had a better tutorial for Win8 for the changes,but end of the day any PC you use you have to have some sort of technical ability even at a minimum level regardless.

I hope they are ready for Win9,10,11 etc...

Yes, there are double standards when it comes to the perceived difficulty in learning the UI. But there is also an element of longstanding conventions being replaced with something that isn't discoverable, compounded by the lack of any out of box support in the initial release.

I prefer W8 to W7. Just feels faster, better file copying, task manager, better drivers etc.

Don't use Metro at all. Have no need to.

the wifi manager isnt so much the bad bit as the woeful problems ive experienced with trying to connect to university wifi systems, problems that dont exist on xp, vista, 7, mac or android.

yet I still find on a day to day basis having to spend 40+ minutes of my time struggling to get it to connect when it should be just set up, auto connect, never worry about again.

I love Linux, server versions with no gui... but I have to adapt to my surroundings otherwise my job would be at risk and I will be jobless.
