Hello All,

A few days ago I had a crash which will result in my 2010 Ford Fiesta Titanium being written off.

I went around a corner not particularly quickly and half way around went over some gravel (from a damaged road surface which covered about 1/3rd of my side of the road) with the outside tyres which caused the car to travel straight into a tree (was like being on ice).

Does anyone think I have a case due to the road condition.

Cheers

that looks like a typical road round here :p

unless you get some more detailed pictures then I cant see much happening

Thanks guys, I have more detailed pictures of the road I just uploaded these quick snaps here.

Upon further investigation this road is well known for being unsafe and is under investigation from other crashes. I have a witness to vouch for the speed I was going and there is evidence of other crashes on this same corner.

The gravel is about a foot wide and 6 foot long half way around a 90 degree corner and looks to be caused by sub par road repairs despite the rest of the road being pretty well maintained.

Ah well it will make little difference to my insurance as it is a fault claim either way.

I approached the corner at around 40 mph, braked quite before the corner a lot, couldn't of been going faster than 20mph around the corner, it isn't a hugely sharp corner

This is exactly why RWD cars are much safer than FWD cars. In that situation, the back would have stepped out onto the gravel-free tarmac and you could have powered out of it like a boss :p

I suppose nothing to lose, I may have a higher chance of success due to the road being 'known' for this sort of thing, amusingly on Google Street View there is a car bumper in the exact same tree.

If the council neglected an issue that they knew about it could work out OK.

Yea it's worth a try - I don't know if it would make a difference to your insurance claim but you might be able to get something out of the council?

Can we please have a Google maps link to the location?

Going purely on the photos, I find it extremely difficult to believe that you'd lose control of the car there, at only 20-30mph, maybe even more.

I don't see how this happened at only 20mph. Surely your right wheels still had grip? Did you spin or just go head first into the tree?

At least it'd be crashing in style though.

I struggle to believe that was a 20mph accident - however trees really don't move so hope you're ok regardless!
