Mercedes have never used Haldex. Haldex is Swedish.Mitsubishi are world leaders with Nissan when it comes to AWD systems in fast cars. Compared to Mercedes who dabbled in a bit of Haldex.

Mercedes 4-Matic, which they have been using since 1987, was designed in conjunction with Steyr.
Oh, and they've been producing the G-Wagen since 1979.
And the Unimog started life in the 1940s, so MB do know a little bit about 4WD...
Also I am aware of the G Wagens and other 4 matic systems but they are all off road based.
This is the first time Mercedes have ever attempted anything sporty with 4wd.

Is a 1987 W124 an off-roader?
Really?
I take it the 550bhp E63 4Matic isn't sporty then?
optional extra and lhd only plus is very new as well.
Off road based means entirely that. Doesn't have to be a land rover. All those 4wd mercs are for a market where bad weather and poor conditions are needed not the sports characteristics of AWD. Hense my off road comment. Again a sweeping statement that has been mis read.

Keep moving those goalposts. An E Class is not an off-road vehicle nor is it designed to be used off-road.

I stand corrected. A, B and CLA use Haldex. Presumably because they're (originally) FWD.The A45 AMG may be labelled 4Matic but it does use a Haldex clutch.
I thought those cars were RWD until they needed to transfer power to the front, certainly the R8?
The GTR and 911 Turbo's are certainly RWD biased, hence them still being quite fun to drive and not as dull as your typically AWD or Haldex AWD/FWD biased cars.
The 991 Turbo is Haldex AWD though.
