I really enjoyed the special, lots of laughs throughout and a lot of pulling-hair out moments especially in episode 1 when they were pulling the power lines down & catching branches.

If you just forget any sort of notion that this is 'A show about cars' and watch it as an entertainment show then I think it's as brilliant as ever. The only episode I can remember being pants from this series was the 2nd half of the hot-hatchbacks. The rest of the episodes have featured a really good mix of car porno and el oh el moments.

My eyes are still a little sore after that episode.

agreed

me and wife were crying with laughter when they decided to use jeremy's tipper truck to tip him out of bed in the middle of the night. Likewise the segment when they moved his tent over the river and May woke up to Shout "CLARKSON !!"

Staged or not, it was still absolutely hilarious. Likewise the bit where they pee'd into Richards shower. You could clearly see the end of the bottle they were pouring the water in, and the OTT jokes about his shower being "lovely and warm" but it was still hilarious. Another highlight was the bit after the party where Hammond looked like the walking dead. That whole night was completely surreal, and was no doubt surreal for the crew and cast too !

I dunno whether I've just aged rapidly in the last couple of years but I just watch this show now and barely even crack a smile. Something must have surely changed in the team that makes it because now it's gone way too far into the crap childish humour.

So many **** jokes. hilarious...

Then they just stick in little segments when they chat about the real prisoner of War stuff.

Beyond the good scenery and interesting country, it's just for too contrived and predictable. It's not remotely good comedy. I like slapstick stuff, Mr Bean and the likes, visual jokes. But this is crap.

Good god, what a bundle of joy you are.

Don't get me wrong, a couple of years back the Top Gear specials were worth the license fee alone. Just recent series have grated on me. Think maybe I've started over analysing it. The peeing in the shower thing, the school boy use of the word c...k. The dramatic uh oh is the bridge going to collapse rubbish at the end.

The constant fakeness spoils anything of any actual merit for me.

I'm a big comedy fan. I'm not a grumpy humourless person. Top Gear has lost me now though.

Yet you'll watch the next series, and the one after that, and the one after that, and you'll probably moan in this thread after every episode.

So why do you bother watching it?

I think Eastenders is terrible, so I don't watch it.

I'll watch them sparingly as I have with the last couple of series. There isn't much else on TV at that time so ooccasionally I will catch it.

I'm just saying my opinion. To me, the series has notably gone down hill. I used to thoroughly enjoy it. I just don't like the direction it's taken.

People needn't get defensive or anything. I can see a lot of you still love it.

I didn't really understand why they were referring to a "slope" on the bridge - it looked pretty flat to me. However I've just read that they were doing a racism and referring to the Thai worker on the bridge at the time. I'm literally cringing thinking about it now. It's like that Mexico joke that Hammond did a few series ago, not funny and totally unnecessary. I thought Burma was one of the better specials but that's actually ruined it for me.

I cried laughing watching this special

You just have to accept its not your taste and stop watching it. Its just not your sense of humour, the same way not everybody was a fan of "The League of Gentleman" Some found it hilarious , others didn't. I loved the fast show back in the day, but others thought it was horrible and boring.

It seemed to me that they were actually referring to the slight left-right slope fo the bridge. The slope was the reason their wheels kept on coming so close to falling through the gap in the middle.

yeah I thought they were talking about either that right tracks levelness, or length ways on the bridge.... as when you looked from the river it did dip down just after center :p

was fully expecting one of them to go in to be fair! the flex in that bamboo as it was driven over was crazy, looked like it was pretty much snapping... I was thinking "how are the others going to cross now that the tracks have broken?!", but I think there were also sheets ontop which were flexing the most?
