Women......and tablet PC's.......and using them to do course work on........

To be fair on one point, I can probably type faster on my iPad than I can on my wife's laptop.

Look Sisko, you can just slink off back to Derp Space Nine and take that low res face palm with you. You have no idea about the laptop in question or my considerable typing skills so just go away with your fail between your legs.

I'm assuming the laptop has a broken keyboard?

Nope, and it's only a couple of years old, but the keys are flat and just don't feel right under digital depression. Typing on a Pad is velvety for me. Slightly slower perhaps, but nice, and I do A LOT of typing so I'd rather have a pleasant experience.

I'm kinda surprised by the responses here.

You shouldn't be, after all it is GD, I tend to only post when I have something useful to say or when im in a bad mood... can guess which one it is :( no offence intended to you.

I didn't even detect anything negative on your part, old chap. :)

Ok not being a douchebag but it is impossible to have the feeling of typing on a keyboard with a tablet.

Dont get me wrong some laptops have awful keyboards, but in general I find something I can feel works better than touch. I have very cold hands and sometimes my S4, or my daughters Nexus 7 and iphone 3gs does not react to my touch.

I doubt anyone can type faster on an ipad than a keyboard. ;)

another apple sheep there then. To be fair though what is the point in all these tablets? I was offered one on my phone contract and all the woman could do to 'sell' it to me was for updating Facebook, Twitter etc and general net surfing?! I'm not on either Facebook or Twitter and i can surf on my phone away from my pc. They just seem pointless yet they spring up everywhere as a must have gadget

It's nothing to do with 'apple sheep'. If we're going for any metaphorical farm animal, I would go with 'stubborn cow'.

not written as an insult. OP mentions woman on ipad but refers to microsoft software when trying to do work. clever marketing has made apple products popular as they're simple to use but dont have the software they require for the task at hand.....

There's applications that have MSOffice file support, Microsoft are also launching office for ipad shortly. You can have some of your rolleyes back

if you read my post earlier you'll see i haven't been swept up in the tablet madness so as a result i have no idea what apps are available and if they are or are not compatible with ms office

No, you're incredibly stubborn and ignorant.

Laptop keyboard = frustrating
Touch on-screen keyboard = casual
Real keyboard (cherry or similar if possible) = real work

I can see why someone would rather use touch onscreen than laptop, but given the option sitting at a desk with a decent keyboard and mouse is less stressful and more productive.

It seems you know bugger all about tablets.
I think you ought to shut up before you make a bigger fool of yourself.

Another one on his period then? I've already stated I know bugger all about tablets. The selling point that sales staff have used to me has been orientated around facebook and net surfing. No advantage over a mobile or laptop.

Edit

You'll notice though that in the op he states about his missus on an apple product but mentions the word document (microsoft) associated with pc rather than apple. He offers her his laptop with office on it but still refuses..... So even after offering her what she's wanting to use she still persists with her iPad....

Office is the 'standard' on Macs too, I work with companies that use both operating systems. Stop being such a nugget.

Agreed on all counts.
