Not REALLY comparable, but the 3.2 V6 Audi TT has a couple rear seats. Bit camp though and 4wd, not rwd. But the 1.8T / 2.0T would be easier tuned.
 
Hmmm I've a similar budget to yours, but could stretch to 6K. I am also looking at 350Z's as the preferred choice.

Cars I'm considering:

- Nissan 350Z
- Toyota Celica GT4
- Nissan 200sx (S14)
- Nissan 300ZX
- Mazda RX7

Have a read about the 350Z's, the tax shoots up from 2005 on wards to £400 per year.

She has asked the following questions that I don't know the answer to:
• How reliable is it?
• How easily available are new parts and how expensive are they?
• How safe is it?

My question is:
• How hard is it to diy? What's engine access like? What's a clutch change like on one of these?
 
Well, I do quite enjoy my TT.

The rear seats aren't good for anything bigger than a child, but then, I don't really intend to have anything but a child in them.

Another curveball may be the Chrysler Crossfire or an Integra.

Girlfriend is dead set against my car choice, I might have to veto her but arguments will ensue. If anything ever went wrong with it I would never be allowed to forget it.
 
It gets worse! She has decided she wants a 'sensible' car because she might want to drive it.

She has not driven in 5 years because she is afraid of other drivers!
 
I think you and your gf need to sit down and decide what you both want from a car.

e.g. You will be adding gf to insurance, just for convenience as it means you can share the driving etc.

That isn't going to stop her from having her own car though.

If she wants to drive more often, then she is going to have to buy her own car.
 
It's very hard to say no to the woman who, every now and again let's you have sex with her. Trust me, we've all been there.

But, my god, grow a pair. If you start off like this, by the time you're married, you'll be driving a 3008 and doing all the housework. :p

or be a real man, tell her straight up what her place is and what car you are going to buy. then enjoy your new car that YOU want and a gf with a newly found obedience for her strong assertive man!

or she might just chop ya nuts off xD

bottom line... it's YOUR money, YOUR car...get what YOU want.... but still find something she'll like about it (must be something) so you won't have to deal with girlfriend aggro :p
