Well done, you've learnt sarcasm. Given where you started from at the start of this thread I'm impressed. For your next lesson I suggest cynicism.

This is what I really hope doesn't happen but fear it might; Russian troops storm the Ukrainian bases on 21st March, shoot any troops who resist and take the remaining Ukrainian soldiers prisoner and transport them back to Russia, where after a few weeks they get released back to Ukraine in a humiliating parade in front of Russia Today cameras. To predict Putin, all you have to do is be a pessimist.

I am sure the red light scenario is far more amusing.

P.S

Its not sarcasm, it is about finding a lower intelligence ground so we can interact.... As your sig suggests your IQ is a mere 100.

:D

I am trying to get my head around Putin's ultimate goal here.

Does he want more land? More control? Or is he just trying to provoke the West?

If he is trying to provoke the West then why and for what reason? He must know that we cannot simply just let him walk into the Ukraine. Hitler/Poland anyone?

It's simple, Putin is protecting Crimea from the pro EU government that has taken over. Russia will never give up Crimea, it's too significant militarily.

It seems the West cannot see this and are determined to make themselves look stupid by keep repeating "Russia pull back". Not going to happen.

Switch off Sky News.

Don't watch Sky News, I stick to the impartial BBC ;)

What I don't understand is why don't we just tell Russia that we will not stick a NATO base in the Ukraine and walk away. Everyone happy. Or did we do that already.

I also wonder when the people in the Ukraine will start thinking that their little coup was probably not the best idea.

Common thinking is that it's a combination of a) because he can and b) the strategic importance of the Black Sea fleet. Also it should not be ignored that Putin thinks that the break up of the Soviet Union was the greatest disaster for his country, so he probably has a strategic goal of securing a Greater Russia type entity of former Soviet states - the Ukraine being the largest and most important of these.

I really can't decide if he's actually going to invade eastern Ukraine, the Crimea may have been taken without a shot being fired but Ukraine proper is a different prospect - does he really want a bloodbath on his hands? On the other hand what happened in Crimea prior to the Russian invasion is also happening in Kharkiv and Donestk right now. And there's the old mantra - to predict Putin all you have to do is be a pessimist. I doubt the EU and USAs response so far has convinced him he can't get away with it anyway.

There has never been any suggestion of Ukraine joining NATO, or NATO bases being located there.

he does go on a bit doesnt he, and its always the same gist, russia good, nato expansion, west bad.

Now that they have officially invited in, it's not an invasion, and will never considered to be one in the History books

Except they (Russian troops) were there before they were invited in. I think history will judge this as a shameful action on Russia's behalf.

I don't think it is possible for any of us to receive 100% unbiased facts. RT is hilariously imbued with propaganda (it is almost painful how bad it gets), whilst USA and UK Media is reporting on issues from either a pro-USA or a surprisingly less-biased UK angle - BBC is the slowest to deliver info, but i'd wager that they are taking far more care in what they publish.

RT is still worth a read/watch - their presenters are mostly UK and USA and many guests/reporters claim to be in Washington or London raging against the machine of the Western world.

Russia may well retain Crimea, afterall, the West is not really that bothered about it, but have to been to be doing something. The insanely weak sanctions are not that big, and they will not last. The test will be: what happens next.

If you push Russia, or Russia is divided, a person like Putin will likely be eager to push his military and, dare I say, Nuclear potential. I'm sure the West have psychological profiles and long-term predictions lined up anyhow...

I don't even know how anyone can be smiling about all this bearing in mind what this could escalate into.

Yep, quote taken out of context, brainwashing full steam ahead.

Warmonger Hague is due to make a statement. He's as far up the U.S's arse as Tony Blair was.

I think Hague is dangerous. He's like Obama's jumped up whippet with the world at his feet.
