Q Cars, you didn't know of.

Friend of a friend has a Mitsubishi RVR, just looks like a generic 4x4/mpv but has a (detuned) Evo engine in.

So are the Stagea's anygood? I see some modified with the R34 Front and i think they look rather cool.

I saw a green one the other day and when I pointed out that they're pretty quick, no-one would believe me. The 'old man's estate' that can shift. :p

Just remembered the Australian market only Toyota TRD Aurion. Supercharged 3.5L V6 saloon!

Not sure I had the supercharged version, but in Aus I loved the Aurion V6 I hired, when I first saw it I felt like killing the wife as she made me off-hire a Ford XR6 as she wouldn't drive it (and it was a bit lairey!), was only after 20 miles when I floored it I found out it had some poke!

Excellent shout!

I had an Aurion ATX as a rental once - base model. Steel wheels, plastic steering wheel, cloth seats. Just totally generic and poverty spec.

FWD, too.

Yet it had 280bhp! It was most bizarre to drive :D

Ooh, didn't know about the Caldina GTT, can add it to the list in my mind of "quick but unassuming estate cars" along with the Nissan Stagea and Mitsubishi Legnum VR-4

The caldina in GT4 guise was actually in production till 2008 with the ST246 chassis code. Nearly ten years after the celica had ended production.

The N1 pulsar VZR version II also boasts something silly like 123bhp per litre N/A as well. Which was a world record till the JDM S2000 and only just pipped to the post as well.

You might also want to search for the Celica Ss3. Makes the legendary Integra look like a school boy. 200bhp 2.0 3SGE beams engined developed with Yamaha, super strut suspension and LSD as standard. Also used in the altezza Rs200 which is a equally cool car as normally gen 1 Is200s are dog slow.

I didn't know it either, more familiar with the "sleeper" terminology.

I've heard it, it's more to describe factory cars which were quick but not very well known.

A sleeper can be that I guess but I'd normally class a sleeper as something that never had a quick spec from factory, but has been modded in a subtle way to be very fast.

The Daihatsu Storia X4 was interesting too, very Q. Think it was a Sirion here but the x4 had a 700cc engine with around 120bhp... looked just like the base model too.

As ZG002 says for me, q car is factory spec, sleeper I first heard years back when someone did a Morris minor conversion with a Jag XJS V12 engine which was quicker than an F40 to 60.

Where the hell did this 'Q-Car' terminology come from?!

I had to Google it and have NEVER heard it used before.

Ditto, obviously heard of sleeper before.

I guess any White delivery van is a sleeper.. Put a normal driver in the and it's slow and lethargic. Put a delivery driver in there and they then into Senna.
