Hi guys.

What is the Married Couple's Allowance?

As I'm married, should my earnings before I pay tax be £3140 more?

Should I be paying less TAX than I do?

In fact, reading up on this I think you only get it if your born before 1935, is that correct?

No it was revoked many years ago and is now only applicable for people born before a certain date.

That is crap :( I thought I was able to claim this, but I cannot.

Thought I was able to get some tax free earnings increases.

Why should married couples get tax breaks? It's much easier financially if there are two people paying the bills than a single person.

sell illegal drugs? hahaha, don't pay tax on the profits of that.

However I dont fancy jail time if I get caught. So maybe I should think of something else.

I wish they'd bring the married couples allowance back. We have a stupid situation in this country.

Family 1 - Both people work and they earn £30k PA each.
Takehome = £46704 per year as a family

Family 2 - Mum earns £60k PA but dad is a stay at home dad to look after the children.
Takehome = £41941 per year as a family

Both families earn the same gross amount but family 2 takes home nearly £5k less per year.

What I don't understand is why when you earn money, you are an individual but when you need benefits your are a household.
If I stopped work, I couldn't claim JSA because my partner earns too much.

Agreed. It seems daft to me, have it one way or the other.

If anyone in power sees this post, they'll just see an opportunity to tax family 1 more money.

In most cases family 1 will have to pay for child care which reduces the gap slightly.
