I'm going to be moving home shortly and need some advice as to the best way I should go about switching my Broadband and Home Phone service to my new home. I'm currently with Sky Broadband (O2 Switched Customer), I'm still on ADSL2 (Sync 10/1).

I've got a few questions:
My new home and my current flat are on the same exchange, what are the chances of keeping my existing landline phone number when I move?

I'm keen to switch to FTTC/Fibre broadband when I move, probably to Plusnet as I've read that Sky Fibre is a bit hit and miss. I'm not sure the best way to go about switching supplier. The previous owner of my new home had BT Infinity (BT Master Socket is FTTC Ready) so transferring my existing ADSL2 broadband service won't work.
Should I migrate to Plusnet now for ADSL and Home Phone then when I'm ready to move get them to transfer the services and upgrade me to Fibre at the same time?

Easy to keep your existing landline number just pop it in when you order with the new supplier.

Don't know what you mean by you can't transfer your existing ADSL2 service if you wanted too? You can if you wish, although why would you if FTTC is available?

I would just signup with Plusnet's FTTC product at your new address, put in your existing landline number and happy days..

ADSL can work fine with the socket Openreach fits in for FTTC. All it does is makes the ADSL filter part of the socket.

Perhaps call up Plusnet and see if they can move you straight to FTTC.

If you aint already got an openreach white modem in your new place and it previously had fibre - be prepared for plusnet customer services to not understand and screw up your order.

Yep you can keep your number as you are staying on the same exchange, one reason why SIP is becoming more and more popular with businesses is because the numbers are not tied to an exchange so a move of offices doesn't risk losing the numbers if you change exchanges.

I was under the impression that when the BT Master Socket is converted for FTTC broadband, standard ADSL Services no longer work. Thanks for clearing that up!
I think my easiest course of action now that I know my existing services can be transferred, is to move my existing ADSL2 and Home Phone (keeping my existing phone number) to my new home. Once its transferred and is up and running I then get my MAC code from Sky and order Fibre ad Home Phone from Plusnet.

I wouldn't... You might find when you transfer your services to your new home Sky may sly you on a new 12 month contract.

Almost guaranteed that they will. Basically *any* change is considered grounds for a new contract. That's just the way these companies operate.

yeah that's how I got lumbered with another BT contract even though I was on rolling 1 month one for years in old place. Gotta wait till Jan 2105 to move phone provider
