What do you think was the most influential card in the last few years.

What you see on the catwalk at a fashion show is hugely influential but 99.9999% of the population is not going to buy it due to the cost. What they will do is buy copies that are influenced by the catwalk at affordable prices.

lol don't think so. I'm yet to see a person walk around with a watered down lamp shade on their head (obviously at an affordable price of course!) :p

Lol. I don't spend much time looking at catwalks.

Influential:Having great influence on someone or something.

To me that reads a card so good you go out and buy it. That comes down to most popular cards which people buy. A card can't influence someone if they don't buy it.

Another example would be the race track, there are loads of things that have been developed for racing that have influenced road car design, this does not mean everyone does their shopping in formula one cars.:D

Go on LtMatt give credit where it's due.:)

Lol jesus Kaap your examples suck. :D

I don't think you'll ever convince me that a gpu 30% faster than the competition but 200% more expensive is influential, sorry mate. :p

Nothing against the quality of a titan mind you. :)

Titan influenced nothing other than sky rocketing prices. People will pay anything to have the best and then they'll try and justify it. This also goes for the other side, AMD.

9700 Pro (cained the Geforces of the time and had hardware tesselation) and the G92 8800 GTS 512 (codenamed "phoenix" for its oven rebirth properties, oh and its stonking longivity at a great price). ;)

I don't defend the price in the context of buying one for gaming as there were so many cheaper alternatives. When it comes to multi GPU setups it was a different story.

So how about the Nvidia 5800, it was a very loud leaf blower card as I recall, it didn't sell very well and was replaced with the 5900, it influenced the market by making manufacturers put better heat sinks and fans on cards. It wasn't the first card to do this and I'm sure it wont be the last, every so often a card comes along that influences the market for the wrong reasons, it has nothing whatsoever to do with price or how many were sold.

Lol. Not a bad shout.

Was this that card?

I would say the 8800GT but for me, it has to be the Titan. The build quality of the cooler needs to be seen and the fact it inspired the 780 and 780Ti is fantastic. Out months before anything else could get anywhere near it.

Good lord, I actually came into this thread thinking it would be interesting, yet all I see are AMD and nVidia owners picking their current fanboy colours, its cringeworthy.

Some 10 years later Nvidia bois finally got their revenge by posting memes about Hawaii. :D

It must have been building up, bubbling away like _magma_...
