Out of curiosity, does anyone have any ballpark figures how much it would cost to produce a PS4/XBox one game? Assume that the plans for the game were already produced, and it was simply a question of putting it into an engine, coding it up, creating graphic work, tweaking multiplayer etc.

I see the engines (like Unreal 4) can be rented for $20 a month + 5% fees so there would be no need to build own engine.

What is the rough figure eg $xx,xxx or $xxx, xxx?

Thanks

Well it wont be the rates you mention as thats not for console licensing, contact Epic for PS4/XO pricing...

ps3ud0

That's a good question OP, pretty hard to find this info too.

A game like Dishonored would be a good example since it wasn't a blockbuster title yet still brilliantly developed.

Much like film or TV, it'll vary wildly from one project to the next. Impossible to put even a rough figure to it without being specific.

I'm running off savings atm during our development due to no publisher etc. I'll be ruined by the end of the year :p

Currently just PC as that's the sure one but we will be aiming for PS4 and X1 as soon as we can so we'll be pestering them soonish depending on some milestones we've set ourselves and we've finalised our applications with both. MS just wants company details and past things, Sony wants the proposed game documentation among other things so we're polishing that up :p

Thank you, and not really we're tiny haha. But we'll be looking into getting more people further down the line when we'll need them, but we'll still be a very small team which is honestly easier to manage, just more work heh.

Also I see Crytek have also announced a subscription plan for $9.90/€9.90 per person for their engine, with no 5% fee, although I see nothing about full source access like UE4 (which was a huge surprise).

edit: just read that cryengine will support console development though, now it's more interesting xD
