Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition Unlocked Version Supported by Intel 8 and 9 Series Chipsets

If they are fully unlocked and still £60 and under then they have potential to stir things up

IF. yet another IF its unlocked, the same old same has been said on every single i3 / pentium release.

If they unlock a £60 CPU fewer will buy an i3, if they unlock the i3 as well fewer will buy the i5.

Its a locked budget CPU replacing a budget CPU with a mass of hype to cause mass hysteria like we see here to justfy a price hike, £70 because it caused orgasms. thank you very much.

Ok are you happy with kaveri, or the pricepoints that kaveri demands at the moment?
Are you tired of amd's lack of creativity and development, when they have products which are always late and not quite what we were expecting. Well until Amd stepup, and you know i'm not biased.
Then we are at the mercy of intel to drip drab. If intel improve their low end then amd have to respond either by pulling their finger out or pricecuts.

We discussed the e8860 before too, so why has nonone in amd thought hey lets embed it on an itx mboard.

Nothing 750k is great, but a phenom x4 is superior.
Wheres the a8 7600, mobile kaveri? Its been a few months now, look at the prices of 7850k 7770k, still too high.

Its a budget CPU replacing an existing one, its not as it its going to be 50% faster than the existing one, like everyother Haswell CPU it will be 7% and less overclocking, hows that a threat to AMD?

My Haswell is overclocked around 33%.

The least you can get is 15-25%.

The difference is, you couldn't overclock budget intel ones before, these you can.

i'm already running an ivybridge pentium and it's more than capable for my needs. by time i need an upgrade, hopefully a used i5 will be dirt cheap.

so although i have no interest in these new pentiums, i am a bit curious as to how much you'd have to spend on a mobo that would be capable of overclocking without breaking the bank.

£40 for a mobo..

Probably a new socket for it though.. ;)

Haha possibly.

These chips will be a bit of fun for budget overclockers, just like the unlocked budget AMD chips. The Haswell Pentiums have quite a bit of pep to them even at at stock. Interesting to see what they can do unlocked.

If the chip is around £50 and the mobo around £40. Could be ideal for a budget setup. Low power use and compatibility with newer better chips later on if needed / wanted.

I don't understand the excitement for an unlocked dual core chip?

Intel could give us an unlocked i3 dual core with HT but they won't as they would lose i5 sales.

Good for marketing purposes.

Unless I am missing something it's not exactly exciting. If I was building a budget rig my eyes would be on Kaveri and waiting for it's price to drop or what's happening on the DDR4 front.

Even mobile phones are going beyond 'dual core'..

If you're building on a budget I would skip Kaveri and go with a A10 6700 or something. The Kaveri chips are overpriced to the point where they aren't really budget chips. The past few gens of APU's were well priced for what they could do. Kaveri broke that trend.

AMD also have that unlocked quad core for like £60 (Forgot it's name). That would be a better budget setup. The unlocked Pentium is aiming for that sort of range as well. Appeals to lower budget gamers that want to play with overclocking and stuff.
