6Months Road Tax

Any chance you can wait a week and a bit? I know it's only three weeks but given how crap the "road tax" system is i'd personally rather not let them have it for free. :p

aaaaah I thought it was an automatic thing where if you had insurance and no tax or vice versa there was a 1k fine. not a clue where/why I read that

Tax without insurance does automatically generate a notification and then a fine. It's an initiative designed to combat uninsured drivers.

Because clearly drivers who aren't inclined to pay for insurance, are going to fork out for VED, lack of which being a much lesser offence. Oh wait, no, stupid government is stupid.

If you tax the car on the last 2 working days of the month, you get the full period plus those days i.e. 6 months plus 1 (or 2) days

and this why I always do my road tax on the last 2 days online.
as long as payment has been made for the new disc you can legally drive the vehicle showing the out of date disc.....just need to remember to put the new one in as soon as it arrives......

A CSO once spoke to me about my disc being invalid (dropping the kids of at school) but after I explained that I had infact bought the new one online and was waiting for it to arrive, the CSO ran my details and shortly after I was on my way with no problems.

If you are simply renewing the tax on a car that's already taxed then you dont need to wait until the last 2 days. Just wait for the reminder to pop through the door and do it online. You wont lose any tax this way.

You only lose tax if the car is not taxed to begin with i.e. SORN or bought form a dealer (new or used)

You could tax it on Fri the 28th and get it as well as Sunday is not counted and its the 2 last working days.

If all you are doing is retaxing a car that already has tax on it then just use the reminder whenever you get it and you wont lose any tax even if you tax it the week before.
