I'm considering getting a dual camera unit similar to the i1000 / F70 so that I can record my day to day driving and also have the re-assurance that if I do get rear ended I have video proof of the collision...

Purpose of the thread is to get an idea of other peoples cameras and to weather they were a good spend or not...

The style of camera I'm after sadly seems to have a 30% failure rate, so getting the background research in.

Mini 0801 are good if you can get them from UK seller, cost a little more but any issues are normally resolved fairly quickly. There's a new version of the 0801 coming out very very soon called 0803. Should have better quality at night time.

I've looked at those and although they do look really good @ its price point for a single camera, just isn't going to cut it for me....

~50 is about my budget limit, and the F70 style one has that all important rear cam

Thanks for the heads up.

Just a reminder that you do get what you pay for.

Do you have any link for reviews of the F70 as I've been thinking about kitting out our cars with dash cams.

EDIT: Just found a review of it on YouTube by TechMoan, he seems to think it's great value for money and from what I saw looked pretty decent.

Yep you'd be right.....

There are lots and lots of different variants of it mind.....
When you go looking you want H.264 format, preferably in black colour with the rear camera as there are lots that have the front unit but not the rear. I've seen many that fit this at around the 40 mark. cheaper ones are fake and not worth it.

Might be well over what your looking at cost wise but i use the RoadHawk HD for the front and the RoadHawk RH-720 as a rear facing. Both hardwired in (did this myself but nest time i will pay some one to do it as it was a bit of a pain.) also got the the rear 720 setup to work as a rear view reversing camera as well that plugs into the head unit.

Good views, good extra stuff on the HD like the GPS is a nice thing and can work out good if some one terns around saying you were speeding or something (as long as you were not speeding in the first place of course)

Good but £££ but as some one has all ready said you get what you pay for.
And you only have to have one non fault crash were the other person is saying its your fault and it s paid for itself.

I also have a Roadhawk HD - bought it after having a few cheap ones for a year - -my old cheap one is now set up in back window - all three of my cheap ones have failed in one way or another - mainly software - two stopped looping and other just died - so now the one in rear window I take out after about four days and delete all footage - These cheap ones are the £18 ones with three lights either side of lens but picture quality is ok for rear camera.

I would put footage on but 1 min is 10meg and my connection couldn't hack it.

I now feel vunerable without cameras on.

I agree.

For £300 i was expecting better. As for altering the bitrate, you can only lower it !

The resolution is there but as you say, the image gets "blocky" to the sides which doesn't happen on the rear (720p) cam. I've even glued a "sunvisor" over the top of the lens shroud to try and keep the shutter open wider. (Pushbike puncture repair pad)

Have you watched my (various) dashcam clips on the site at full res ? it is better but (imho) nowhere near as good as I'd like. You'll also find a vid I took with my Sony Handycam at night and it doesn't go "blocky".

[Edit] to add "Night Run" (using Sony Handycam)

Night Run with Blackview Dashcams....

Ok.. So.. The Good about the Blackview is the GPS is quite accurate and the software has some kewl features but as I'm a Linux user the software obviously is useless to me.

Have you looked into custom firmware at all? I've seen with other BlackVue dashcams that some owners have developed their own firmware tweaks to increase the bitrate.

I would check if there's newer official firmware available first with an increased bitrate option.

still happy with my Blackvue DR400HD-II

sample video from mine just to show the video quality at 1080 @ 30fps

watch in HD :)

is there anything better for cheaper money?
